you see a lot of ppl everyday right? lol i hope so, just observe how normal ppl walk or something, sticks do the same thing, and if not just experiment and be patience, if you think there seems to be something wrong or weird then ask yourself wat seems weird and think of a way to fix it. Good luck~

My first post wasn't too helpful, sorry. This advice is pretty good about basing the walk on realism, it's pretty important to have the person carry their body in a natural way, even if they are a cartoon. Doing a good walk cycle is a pretty complex thing, i think you've got to have a good eye for what looks right, you can't have the person move too stiffly or too loosely, and you certainly can't have the head on the exact same level on every frame, it just doesn't look right. I'd recommend looking at a lot of tutorials on walking cycles, (sorry, I don't know of a huge amount, but there are some links here) as well as looking at people walking in general. There is also a book called The Animators Survival Kit, which has a decent 60 pages or so dedicated just to walking cycles. I'd recommend that book to anyone really interested in animation.

skalz got it right. just observe what other people do when they walk and then animate it. its not hard
