Yeah....
Working on a String Quartet and this is the first draft of a first movement, Largo.
The D note (one step above the central C) sustains throughout the entire song.
To acheive this, on the first beat of every measure, the cello plays the D at the length of a dotted quarter. Second beat, the viola does the same. Third beat, second violin. Fourth beat, first violin.
This makes it so that on every first eighth of a beat, two Ds are heard simultaneously.
It's kind of a recursive formula.
It ensures polyphony (counterpoint), but at the same time limits the chances of dominants dissolving, because chances are the next note to be played has to be the D, which is not the tonica.
To make it more transparant, I chose a very slow tempo (quarter = ca. 26).
