I just voted 5 on something under judgement...and I see this...

You gave this entry a 5, lowering its score from 5.0010 to 5.0005!
If this movie is protected you will get a PROTECTION point!

How can something have a score over 5.0000000?

I see several other post about this in general.
I think James would be the person to answer this question.
He is probably back logged due to just getting back from vacation.

Maybe admins can vote 6 :O

There has been a few cases of this..
and may explinations;
the general one seems to be a problem with the decimal system
Have a nice day :)

Here is my interpretation.

They are using "float"-type variables for your Voting Power stat. Float variables are ones that store numbers with decimals. Integer-type variables store only integers (1, 2, 3, ..., etc).

When rounding to a whole number with float-type variables, the number represented should be rounded perfectly, but that does not always happen. The decimals can be off.

So, when you vote 5 on a flash, when the score is already 5.000, it tries to display the number as 5.000, but the system just has a hard time interpreting that 5.000__ and displays it as 5.012 or some number that isn't quite exactly 5.

In my experience, this is not an error with the value stored in the float variable, but an error in how the machine outputs that number.

Basically, it's 5.000, but it just doesn't look like it. So....don't worry about it.
_______________

Then again, I could totally be wrong.

Sounds good to me, lets go with that
If Redcircle say it, that means its right

Actually, I think you're pretty close to the truth. I had this same problem with floating decimal-point numbers on my NGTL. To save memory space, when a computer stores a floating number, it tends to lose some precision. In this case, it's adding some minor fraction of a point to the score. (remember, these are thousandths and ten-thousandths of a point we're talking about here)

In my opinion, I think this has been happening for a long time now. The only reason you're seeing it now is because we're seeing 4 decimals instead of 2. To be honest, those extra 2 decimals don't really mean anything, so having a lot of precision there doesn't matter.

In summary: stop worrying about it. A little imprecision never hurt anyone, and it doesn't really do anything to the 2-decimal score anyway.

So, out of interest, why did that happen?

Help, I'm trapped inside this guy's signature!

Dunno. Something got borked with the scaling system, I guess, as only levels 9 and above were affected. We all got deity whistles as well.

why the hell did you bump this topic!?
