FFS. Problem is, I have two notepads open, and I keep updating the wrong one =P

Nah, the whole point of these is that they're forum based, and don't require people to open two extra pages/load a movie. Quick link, job done (in theory).

OK. Hopefully it's right this time.

chill dude, don't get so angry about him making tutorials, some newbs don't know how to do that, and you can always contribute to the thread instead of get annoyed by it

The way I see it is this: I'm happy for anybody to share what they know, whatever level they're at with scripting. 'How do I password?' is quite a common newb question, so that thread definitely has its place, even if it is just a simple variable check. If yourself or anybody else wants to elaborate on it (like, maybe suggest a way to use a remote file to check the password, or one in which the password is 'buried deeper' in the swf), then post your thoughts/code in the password thread. That's the reason I started off making them as individual threads.

When I began making AS threads back in February, my aim was to have a resource in the Flash forum which would answer as many newb/intermediate AS questions as possible - which is why the first three were Preloader, Basic Movement, and Sound. Since then, it's taken off to cover more advanced aspects of AS, such as OOP and API, so the shape of the 'project' has changed; but the principle is the same - resources for actionscripters.

However, no matter how many AS threads there are, there will always be a limit to their usefulness, since many questions are asked about custom-made codes. All these topics can do is hope to eliminate some of the more repetitive questions.

I understand what you're saying about 'general' is better than 'specific', but I think they both have their place - many of the questions asked in this forum are very specific. Yes, I can see the list becoming too large to feasibly browse; at that stage, I'll either create an abridged version, or break it up into sections (Beginner/Intermediate/Advanced).

You really don't need to apoligize. I agree I shouldn't of made that pointless thread.

They aren't that pointless.I must agree that the GTA thread was quite pointless,it was specific AND nobody needed it.
The password wasn't that pointless,I don't see many people asking questions about passwords but it gives people the idea to add a password system to their games.

The AS: Variable pretty covers the password system but newbs might not know how to make password systems after reading the AS: Variables thread.

Even if it was pointless, useless AS: threads die anyway.Just let them be forgotten.
The fact that AS threads are created doesn't descrese everything to you.

The password wasn't that pointless,I don't see many people asking questions about passwords but it gives people the idea to add a password system to their games.

A thread is only as good as the people who post in it. If you think one of the AS: threads is lacking, then use your knowledge to fill it out with some improved code, a few relevant links, or some hints and tips on code use.

Denvish, you shuold make a new AS: Main topic. But if you did do that, all the AS threads would link back to this, and not a lot of people would see the new one...

Yeah. That's why I haven't. I nearly did, a couple of days ago, but I realised the same thing that you did; all the links lead to this topic ID

I'm working on loadVars, loadVariables & loadVariablesNum - aka loading data from external files. Don't know if I'll have time to finish it today though.
