Newgrounds basically benefits off of the hardwork of Flash Designers and Creators. 100% of the profits go towards Newgrounds and nothing else. I'm expecting a defense of high web-usage cost.

You have the same level of advertisement/popup spyware as most Pornography websites. It's funny that most of your target audience are children.

heh, it's funny all the people who are rushing to defend NG when you're painfully correct.

NG draws 99.99% of it's content from user submissions. All money made from banner adverts goes straight into their pockets (after expenses which, honestly, isn't as much as you'd think). Now, no matter what they say, NG is making absolute shit-ton of cash, off other people's hard work no less. Tom's drives a WRX, owns a house (I believe, don't quote me please :/ ), has enough on the side to pay 3 (4 if stamper is being paid yet) employees and start up a video game development company .

Granted, they will argue that people do benefit from putting their stuff on NG, through exposure and what not. And sure, NG does provide an audience, but that audience is there because of the user submitted content and would have disappeared long ago if it were just for inhouse stuff.

That's the thing though. I like Newgrounds! I've just seen a change over the years. Worse and worse entries...etc.

After all what is said, sure Newgrounds shows talent and such to a wide audience but that's the same kind of thinking the video game/animation industry had. Workers earning slave wages while management goes and plays golf. If they had a disagreement then they would get a speech on doing it for the love. If they continued, they would have been fired and replaced. Sure I guess.

Yes he makes a lot of money from NG but he spends very little of it on himself. He spends most of it on server upgrades etc. so that the users can submit more to the site and the site will run quicker and will be able to transfer information much quicker and that more people can use it and the bandwith will hold.

Tom can't make people NOT like boobies, and he has to pay for the ENORMOUS bandwith costs this site generates, unlike sites like Fark, that are TRULY a shitfest where the owner does jack shit and gets lots of money with no costs.
He has to maintain a balance of putting stuff that will bring a certain audience back for more, and putting stuff he personaly likes. Its a business, and the big success of the site is because its free, and to keep it that way, he has to put violence and boobies and porn adds because that's what pays the bills.
He doesn't decide this, its just how it is.

if you want to go and give Tom 10k a month to help out with the bandwith costs so he can put all the stuff YOU like on the frontpage, go right ahead.

As flash movies and games get more and more intricate, I seriously doubt that people will continue to submit to NG. Why submit to NG and get nothing but abusive 13 yr olds (plus some nice, constructive adults :) reviewing your work, when you can submit it to another site and make money for your effort. Hell, there's already plenty of flash game sites that will pay decent cash for game licencing, how long do you think till the penny drops and the same happens for movies?

Yeah, granted NG will always be there for the amatures or rising stars, and in that regard they're doing great. But will people keep coming here when all that's on offer is second grade material?

And Ng pays for your bandwith, which is the appeal of it. It gives you an audience, and pays for the bandwith your Flash uses. Most of the people who do submit to NG do it for fun.

They would probably run right out of money in like a week anyways, because no one wants to pay to watch little Flash cartoons, which is the sad reality you have to face when you think about making Flash cartoons for a living :o Kids don't like to pay extra for stuff on the net. If NG asked for any money, they would close pretty fast.

Things to keep in mind:

1. How many sites do you know of that allow it's users unlimited free access to 5mb or larger downloads and don't have a lot of ads?

2. How many sites allow you to freely submit your content so it may get featured on our front page and get 30,000-150,000 views a day? Giving you tremendous exposure resulting in a lot of traffic to your website. Basically free advertising for your talents.

Newgrounds.com is like a Flash artist's personal agent. Do you know how much actors and musicians pay to have an agent represent them? We are providing that service for free.

Also the reason Tom has made Newgrounds.com this way is because it's what the Newgrounds.com users wanted. So then you come along and think what they want is wrong and Tom is taking advantage of everyone. You sir are a moron.

Unique visitors may actually be higher than reported, but we had at least that many, and we know exactly how many people deposited. So 6,122 people out of 429,122 visitors cared about the points. These are our hardcore users who help view new entries that come into the Portal. They deserve to be rewarded for their work. If we didn't offer rewards most of them wouldn't do it and we'd have a hard time getting 200 votes on new entries so that they can pass judgment. This is why we also added BLAM and SAVE points to offer more incentive to help view the new entries.

So about %0.014 percent of our audience cares about points? So we're diabolical master minds because we addict our audience with points when 99.9% of them don't give a shit and just come here to view the quality Flash entries we showcase?
