First off, you like Inuyasha, therefore you = cool. I've been wanting to sound like Kagome for some time now, and lately Kagura also. If you have a specific role you would like that isn't taken by one of my regulars, maybe I could use you in one of my Inuyasha fandubs in the future.

Oh, about coaches and all that...I'd kinda suggest not getting one when you're starting out because it seems like it would be a lot of money :/ My advice is, since you want to do anime acting, observe professional actors in subs and GOOD dubs (I suppose you can watch bad dubs to get an idea what NOT to do lol) and try imitating the voices. At least, that's how I got started. There are some more experienced people here who may have some better ideas but yeah.

Sorry to double-post, but Pheonix-san, I remembered something...you wondered if you have the "right voice" for anime. Don't worry. I do not have the "right voice" for anime but I learned to change it. I mean, how many people in real life actually sound like Excel or Haruko? (Most people would probably find it annoying if they did....) For example I used to be upset at not being able to play chibi girls because I have a fairly deep voice normally..until realizing, Dude, you can change your voice. It just takes practice.

Well, i have to start somewhere! I prefer to build experience with liad-back indie-type work, then move on to the strict stuff. Thanks a lot for your help, i will definately check out the link you provided. And thanks for making me feel so welcome! (Same to you, Kagome! Thanks!)

My best voices that I can do are Mr Burns and Smithers from the Simpsons, Shaggy and scooby and the characters plankton, squidward and especially patrick star from spongebob squarepants. I can probably sound like Dr Eggman from the sonic games too.

Hello Everybody !
This is my first post over the forum......
(Since the first post didn't appear so I rewrite another one).

I must say that this club you created is very cool !
I wonder if you guys wanted to try something with me.
(I'm a simple Animator.. nothing much)

I wonder if any of you would like to try something for FUN !
Such as 2 sentences (really short) boy + Girl and I will animate it, and it may looks cool, because you will have no idea (at 1st time) how your VOICE is going to LOOK (and Act) LIke ! ...

I was thinking about something like... hmmm... maybe:

Evil Monster (Male Voice):
" Mwahahahahaahaha !!!! And Now... It's time for you to DIIIIIIEEEEE !!!!!!!!!!!!!! "
( *All the sentence should sound evil, *Die = Long Scream)

Good Guy (Girl Voice):
" Hmm ! ...We'll see about that. "
( *Hmm = Small Smirk over the character's face, the rest of the sentence sounds like he is very Sure about himself )

Those 2 sentences are only an Idea of something popup in my mind... you may record anything you like, afterall it's for FUN !

if you are interested, please e-mail me at:
kayoto@surfree.net.il
with your link so I can download the .mp3 that you recorded.

I'm sorry about my bad English....
Have a nice day everybody !

Hey, everybody!
I know there are probably a million of them out there, but can anyone recommend a good voice recording software? (Preferably not too expensive and download-able!) I'm getting tired of only being able to record 60 seconds at a time...in .wav only...with my current program (which came w/ windows). Thanks a lot!

I use Cool Edit Pro. I find it's a really decent program, I've never had trouble with it. I tried Goldwave, but found it a little hard to use.

Sorry for the many many posts, but i'm just getting started, and you folks really seem to know what you're doing!
I have been recording sides & whatnot so, hopefully, i can majke an amateur demo just to get started (can't afford a professional one just yet), and i'm getting a lot of noise...i mean, a LOT. Okay, i'm recording w/ my computer, so that's probably making a lot of the noise, but i tried taking the mic into a closet full of clothes and recording there, i'm getting the same amount of background noise (the only difference is my voice- i don't sound like i'm inside a tin can) I'm wondering if all the noise is bcs. my mic is plugged directly into the sound card? What can i do to remedy this problem? Also- what's a foam mic cover for and do i need one? Thanks for all your help! BTW- Isca, i'll definately check out Cool Edit Pro. I've heard of it before, but wasn't sure, thanks for the tip!

Ahhhh, cursed microphone noise. It's hard to say what could be causing it. Is it just background static? Or is it air puffs? Air puffs are easier to solve, but background static can be trickier.

Hello

I am making a clay movie it is about an invading orange army waging war on the blue country. There is a big battle and there is not that much voice to say maybe 5 lines.

I will need a Male actor that can play multiple voices and I will need a Female actor that can play a rough girl voice. If you want more details say so and I will send you the sciprt and give more detail about everything.

Sounds like what you're picking up is ambient noise; don't worry about it, everybody has that. But yes, dirty plugs for your soundcard can also be a problem (as well as just plain bad plugs). Mic foam covers and puff shields are entirely optional, but reccomended for helping your mic avoid picking up some of those lippy-smacky noises. In any case, Cool Edit Pro 2.0's noise reduction function can really help with getting rid of the background stuff. You can get it here. The crack for it will be a little harder to find....

Also, make sure you're recording at LEAST a rate of 44KHz, 16-bit, mono. That could be why there's so much noise. Anything lower than that and more ambient noise just automatically creeps in, especially at an 8-bit resolution of sound.

Good luck!

Well...I use Audacity, which is download-able. It's reliable for recording and very easy to use. About the always recording as .wav and the time limit...well, Audacity doesn't have a time limit (well it does, but I doubt you'll be recording for more than 8 hours). To save your sound files as .mp3, you would have to download a 'Lame' codec and then you'd be able to save your recordings as .mp3 anytime you'd like.

I am still looking for a male to voice some characters in my movie. So is anyone interested in voicing. there are 3 male characters well for if you count the army guys but they just say yes and no and it really isnt big parts and you don't have to take all 3 characters but I would like it more if someone did all 3 male's.

I use too different programs to do my demo mixing. Here's what I do in order:

1) I usually improvise my script, but it's wise to have one with you, along with any sound effects or music you'd like to have as well.

2) I first use Cool Edit Pro to record one line, then use the great noise reduction feature. That should take out MOST of the noise in your recording, but sometimes it can make you sound robotic-like (which is better than static).

3) Now, I know you can do multilayers in CEP, but I usually mix my lines in Audacity. It's a sort of easier interface with me. I save all of my lines (that I recorded in CE) into a folder and then import them in Audacity, putting space between each one. Afterwards, I import in the music and SFX, and basically edit them and so forth until I like them.

4) Fading out music is a really good touch effect with your demo's too. That's what I use, and sometimes I'll use different effects on my voice such as a reverb or flanging, ect. REALLY try to steer away from changing your voice with pitch, since that's what some people would call 'cheating'.

5) Anyway, after all the music is in place, and the lines go with it in a way I'm happy with, I'll just export it and place it on a site for listening, and wa-la!

That's what I did with this: www.voiceacting.co.uk/hosted/SeiyruRenaih_Demo.mp3

And it turned out pretty good!

If air puffs means, like, the air coming from my own voice on p's & other plosives, i don't think that's it. It's really just a whooshing noise. Basically, it sounds like there's a constant breeze going through the room (the house is old, i know, but i don't think that's the case!)

Then it's pretty much just ambient noise; just like what Omahdon was talking about. Everyone gets unwanted background noises such as these. You'll just need to use Noise Removal tool on your recordings to get the noise out. But be careful, sometimes Noise Removal can make your voice sound all robotic-like.
