Auto-lock old threads?

Auto-lock old threads? 2004-11-12 15:44:03

Would it be possible to run a program or a script on the NGBBS that would automatically lock old topics if they haven't been posted in for, say, 6 or 12 months? That way we could avoid annoying and unnecessary bumping and n00bs would avoid getting themself banned for it.

Not necessary since only a few stupid n00bs bump old threads or post in bumped old threads.

No-one cares about that, but it's really annoying when some very old thread gets bumped.

"Space" isn't really a problem with the forums. It is mostly text and sig pics being displayed, not much more.

i find it funny. i think bakaman or something like that bumped a year old thread with "what are we talking about?"

No need for an auto lock, you just need self restraint, let the n00bs get banned for bringing up a year old post.

right, are you one of those people that make another halo 2 thread whilst there are already 7 on the first two pages?

If someone uses the search bar and revives an old thread, with reason, they will most likely be bitched at. If they start a new thread, done previously, people bitch at them to use the search bar. Sometimes, people need to make up their minds.

Because people might still wanna read those threads.

how much fun would it be if everyone strictly followed the rules? it wouldnt be fun at all, n00bs that break the rules at flavor and fun to the bbs, i like to see the witty posts that mods can make before they ban people, it is entertaining.

I think there should be a thread garbage (new forum section, access only etc) for auto locked threads to go, something like that, if your thinking about the reading.

people that bitch about people not using the search engine but turn out to be wrong because the already existing topics had died long time ago will also get bitched at. But this almost never happens.

Just what would be 'relevant' enough to post into a two-year old thread? Besides, a lot of topics are remade. I'm sure there's always a newer topic about the same subject where you can say what you have to say.

I bumped a two year old thread to point out that a link was broken and I got banned, that was like a year ago though
