Yeah, the main reason my reading pace has slowed is because I'm spending so much time with my girlfriend. She likes a good read, but she can do that when I'm in the office, as she hasn't got a job at the moment.

Fucking women. I don't see my lady much at all during the week, as we both work the same shifts, only she does more hours, so i have plenty of time for reading during the week, and sex at the weekend, it's win win.

Well, I've come to the conclusion, after spending quite a lot of time with her over the weekend, that I am better off if I get up at around 9-10am and grab a book over breakfast. That way, I can do a few chapters before she gets up, as she likes a lie in at weekends. Personally, I don't, as when I'm awake, I need to get up and doo stuff.

Intervention
Julian May
ISBN: 0-330-30309-0
Publication Date: 1987

Rogatien Remillard is a man who stands at the sharp end of Human evolution. He and his twin brother Donnie are some of mankinds first "heads", with Psionic mind powers, such as telepathy, telekinesis, coercion and various other powers which I shall leave you to discover yourself.

Uncle Rogi, as he becomes known by his army of nephews and nieces is also visited by the family ghost, who compels him to write his memoirs. These are sampled here, along with the rest of the tale of the events leading up to humanity's induction into the Galactic Milieu - A body of 5 alien races which all have smilar mind powers. All humanity has to do is join minds in prayer and call to them. This book charts their attempts over some 80 years.

A very compelling read, which I have taken some time to get through on my second read of it. This bridges the gap between May's Saga of the Exiles and the Galactic Milieu Trilogy, which are also both worth reading.

I hope everyone enjoys reading the escapades of the Remillard family as much as I did

Overall 8/10, as the writing did allow me to wander from it for months at a time, sadly. I do need to make more time to read, so will strive to, as I read Wintersmith by Terry Pratchett

Rofl, I last posted in april last year; just three pages ago. I imagine this is because most books take about 7 to 20 hours to read, and most films take no less three hours to watch =D

I've been reading a lot recently, and here are some that I would reccomend:

The Purple Cloud - M. P. Sheil - Had to get it shipped over from the US. A very chilling book, a post apocolyptic journal of the sole survivor of the human race. I had nightmares ^_^

No Blade of Grass - John Christopher (author of the tripods quadrilogy) - Again, I had to get this shipped over from the US. Even though it only took a couple of days to read, it's worth any expence. Details the story of a group of peoples journey across the bleak northern moors of england, after an asaitic virus destroys every type of grass in the world. The Earth is starving, it's people reverting to savages. (gewgle it for more info).

Farenhiet 451 - Ray Bradbury - Brilliant, and well known dystopian novel (I'm a fan of them) about the decline, and eventual outlawing and flaming destruction of literature of almost every kind. Follows the story of Ray Montag, a Fireman - who's job it is to start the fires, not put them out.

Currently reading: Isaac Asimov - End of Eternity

Now post more...

We do, but we have few members who have different tastes in books, sadly.

Basically, if you keep coming and posting your reviews, maybe you'll find an author you enjoy reading and we can go from there

Yeah, but none of you are discussing books that you like. Seems a bit pointless, this club, really.

No, what are they?

Has anyone read the Garth Nix books? I read the Kindom series and Shades children, which was the best by far, but I am not sure to move onto his other work...

No, not yet.

I'm currently reading Black Hawk Down, which is gripping. The main problem is that I'm only finding time to read when I should really be sleeping... need to sleep first then read first thing in the morning...

Currently I'm reading the book 'It' by Stephen King at a rate of 100 pages a day. Anyone else read it?

I've never really been a fan of Stephen King. Horror just isn't my thing.

I'm currently reading a book called Dragonsdawn, by Anne McCaffrey. It's a crossover Sci-Fi / Fantasy novel, where a small fleet of ships is sent to a distant planet to start up a colony. They are to be completely cut off from the Federation of Sentient Planets (FSP) and basicalyl they regress to a more medeval style of living, but their main nemesis is a devouring organism that falls from a planetoid with a wierd orbit. This stuff can be destroyued by flame, which the local lifeforms "dragonets" can breathe. Man has tampered slightly to allow these to become big enough for a human to ride.

So, the Dragonriders of Pern were born. A really well written prequel, but I'll give more details when I've finished reading it :)

has any one here read the James Bond novels by Ian Flemming?
I am currently reading Robert Ludlum's novels about Jason Bourne and it way different form the movies. so I was wondering if the James Bond novels are like the movies or different.

The Bourne Identity is a good book that I never got round to finishing, because I got into the wrong mindset. I've never touched the Flemming Novels about Bond.

In the few books I have read over the past years there is one thing that keeps bugging me and its this, why are all the villains dumb? can any one recommend a book were the antagonist gives the hero a run for his money?

Ps. look for my review on Don Quixote, it will be up as soon as I feel like it.

Try Reading "Going Postal" by Terry Pratchett. The villain in that isn't dumb. I think you may have trouble working out who the villain is :P

Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes is one of those books that every one has heard of. there are numerous references to it in pop culture, who has not heard of the infamous wind mill scenario, its characters are known to all. but what is the book really like does it deserve all the glory or is it a bunch of bull shit? find out soon.......

........like now. Don Quixote is about a man who in his advanced years has decided to became a Knight, not a mere knight mind you but a knight's errant, how ever it soon becomes clear the he can't be trusted as a knight or any other job that uses sharp tools. The Don spent his whole life reading about the adventure of fictional Knights and one day got the urge to go. what he over looks is the fact that the flower of knight hood has long since faded. He is joined by his trusty companion Sancho Panza for the chance of getting an island of his own if his master finds a noble king to serve.

ok so the book is size able with 800 to 1000 page depending on the font. if by any chance that turns you off you are missing out on a great book . the book is funny through out and I had a few good laughs. Cervantes is a comedy genius if he is able to right a piece 400 years ago and its still funny. now don't get me wrong its not exactly a laugh riot but its entertaining to say the least. there are a few problems with the story, while most can be over looked, there is one that I found annoying to say the least. its the fact that the story deviates to other short stories within the story line it self. this however is only a small issue and can be easily over looked.all in all its this is good book and I would recommend it to any avid reader.

ps. check out my user page for an in depth look in to the two main characters
pps. this is my first review so ether pm me or leave a comment on my page if you have productive tips for next time. please be honest other wise I won't learn.

Well, Im not a member but I felt like sharing that a book called "alhazred" is well-worth reading. Its a fiction (non-fiction if you believe in the necronomicon ethos)
Anyway, its about the mad arab alhazred and it is probably one of the best books I have ever read. Very descriptive a work of art basically.

But, like War and Peace, most people have said "I'll read it at some point", but get around to dying faster :P

Maybe with the Autumn starting and the winter closing in, I might just be able to spend more time reading. I hope so, I've got lots of books to read.

Only a hardback copy :P

Well, I'm in the situation of waiting for a shelf to be built in my room, so that I can have more space to fit my ever expanding DVD collection. This will clear approximately 12ft of shelving in other parts of my room for book storage. Then I can start collecting books that I haven't read again, then they can sit on the shelf and nag me, metaphorically speaking.

Is Don Quixote a good book? I've been thinking of picking it up, but I don't want to waste my time on it if it's not good, since I usually read a pretty slow pace.
