Schoolwork gives you ages to read. Try it when you work 40 hours a week and get so tired and stressed thjat you can't be bothered when you get home of an evening.

I only managed to spend about 2 hours doing each piece of coursework. I find any kind of high tempo music is good, because if you can type with the beat, you type faster.

Great, It looks like there is a small army of Rankin followers appearing at the Book Club.
I've been busy today. I bought a copy of 'The King Beyond the Gate' by David Gemmell and 'Sex and Drugs and Sausage Rolls' by Robert Rankin (with a title like that, who else?)
I'll read them both and review on here.
EVERYONE ELSE POST REVIEWS!!!
WE NEED YOUR HELP!

catch 22 then, I'm afraid, Manic. You'll just have to learn to live with it.
Do you look at the keys or at the screen when you type? I do both, but I look at the keys mostly, so maybe that would help.
I have been reading a few good books lately. MOst of them have been from the EarthSea cycle )if you've ever heard of it).

I tend to watch the keyboard when I type so........yeah?

I haven't heard about them, Captain. Tell us more.

Well, that's that plan shafted. Have you tried giving a little proof read to your posts before posting. I know this will make posting slower, but I do and it works for me... most fo the time ;)
Title : Legend
Author : David Gemmell
Date of Publication : 1984
ISBN : 1-85723-681-5
"The Legend is Druss
"The stories of his life are told everywhere. Instead of the wealth and famehe could have claimed, he chose a mountain lair, high in the lonely country bordering on the clouds. There the grizzled old warrior keeps company with snow leopards and awaits his old enemy, death.
"The fortress is Dross Delnoch
"It is the only route by which an army can pass through the mountains. Protected by six outer walls, it was the stronghold of the Drenai empire. Now it is the last battleground, for all else has fallen before the Nadir hordes.
"And the only hope rests on the skills of that one old man."
Writing style.
I did not know what to expect, but I enjoyed the pace of the book. Although it seemed to be slow starting off, it needs to be, to represent the calm before the storm. The calm before the Nadir masses arrive at the Dross and attempt to take it from the Drenai.
Well set out, quite descriptive, especially when it comes to the fights. It would have been more simple to say that someone had died. He describes, in minute detail, the cause of death and ends the short life of the character with as much respect as he had begun it.
Would I reccomend it?
An excellent introduction to the Drenai series. There are five more Drenai books, which will have to be read in good time.
Best bit (Non-Spoiler) [A seer has wandered into the Tavern where Regnak (Rek) is staying. He is to leave soon.]
"'But destiny must be heard. You do not wish to hear words of your death, Regnak the Wanderer, son of Argas, and so I will withhold them. You are a man of uncertain character and only a sporadic courage. You are a thief and a dreamer and your destiy will both haunt and hunt you. You will run to avoid it, yet your steps will carry you towards it. But then this you know, Longshanks, for you dreamt it yestereve.'
'Is that it, old man? That meaningless garbage? Is that fair trading for a silver coin?'
'The earl and the legend will be together at the wall. And men shall dream, and men shall die,but shall the fortress fall?'
The old man turned and was gone."
My Rating : 9/10
I'm still a little skeptical of the title bestowed upon Rankin by Time Out magazine: 'Probably the finest living writer of heroic fantasy.' but I was happy to read it. I shall tackle the rest of the series at a later date, because toward the end, I really couldn't put this one down.
Happy reading. I shall be revisiting my childhood, by reading 'The Hobbit next. (I assume you all know who wrote that one!)

Will do. I have to write an essay on it anyway, so a small review wont hurt.

Capital news.
W00t. 600+ posts
So last night, i stayed awake until 3am reading the Davinci Code, by Dan Brown. I didnt want to sleep knowing i was only 90 pages away from the end, so three hours later, i was finished, and i severely enjoyed it.
Dan Brown, is a new authour to me, i only bought this one book to see what all the hype was about, its spawned many other books, tv programmes and a movie is in production, so i thought id give it a try and make my own mind up about it.
The storyline evolves around the search for the holy grail, starting with the murder of french national police crytologers grand father. He was an art connessuier (sp?) and was head of charge at the Louvre in France, keeping track of, keeping, buying the art in the grand art gallery. When he is brutally murdered, he leaves a cryptic message on the floor, which none of the police understand, BUT, Robert Langdon, our main character can. The dying mans final message involves Roberts name, which, brings police to beleive he is a suspect. This all turns into a cat and mouse chase. For Robert and Sophia (FP Cryptologist), they must escape the louvre, and find the links to the cryptic message before the police can find them. This is an excellent read. Although, very short in my opinion, its a page turner, with a difference. Dan Brown uses actual places (very well detailed, and very informative) and people, such as the national art galleries in France, crypts and castles in England, and even a visit too Scotland :D Overall i would rate this book 9 out of 10, for the sole reason that this is the first book in a while which has kept me glued to my seat when i start reading it. My time is very short for reading these days, but this filled it, AND, seemed to make time for itself, i havent stayed up so late over the last few days reading for nothing :)
A great book, i hope some of you guys will read it and make your own judgements about it. Well thanks for reading (if you did:D) and i look forward to raeding more from this Dan Brown in the future. Possibly Angels and Demons, i will purchase on Thursday.
Sounds a good book, SCD. I've got a long list of books to read, but I may pop into Waterstones on Thursday and pick up a copy, making the list longer still.
I popped into Waterstones today and added to my personal book collection of around 500 books. I now have a copy of 'Lost Tales: Part 2' and 'The Lays of Beleriand', both from the History of Middle Earth, by JRR Tolkien.
I also acquired a copy of Shogun (finally) by James Clavell. only 1125 pages long, so it should take me about six months to read.
Title : The Hobbit
Author : JRR Tolkien
Date of Publication : 1937
ISBN : 0-261-10221-4
"Whisked away from his comfortable hobbit-hole, by Gandalf the wizard and a band of dwarves, Bilbo Baggins finds himself caught up in a plot to raid the treasure hoard of Smaug the Magnificent, a large and very dangerous dragon..."
Writing style.
Tolkien is undoubtedly very long-winded. He may tend to ramble, when describing a scene, but the depth he gives the reader is of such quality, I cannot bemoan it, for such a vivid picture is painted in my mind's eye. Another drawback is his tendancy to use long words, which will have you reaching for the dictionary constantly.
The one place his descriptive talent does lack is during the battle scenes. I find those far too short for my liking and would advise people to read them twice, to get a true feel for what is happening.
Would I reccomend it?
This book is a must read. If you ahve not read the hobbit, why not? Go and buy or borrow a copy and read it now! This book is the definitive modern classic, along with it's sequel, 'The Lord of the Rings' and it will be remembered for generations.
Best bit (Non-Spoiler) [Bilbo has had to buy back his furniture, due to him being 'Missing, presumed dead']
"Many of his silver spoons had mysteriously dissapeared and were never accounted for. Personally, he suspected the Sackville-Bagginses. On their side, they never admitted that the returned Baggins was genuine and were not on friendly terms with Bilbo ever after. They really had wanted to live in his nice hobbit-hole so very much."
My Rating : 9/10
Because of his long winded style and tendancy to use long, eloquent words, I shall dock him a mark. This is also due to the fact I know that LotR is better (And I'm not giving that 11/10.)
Pleasant reading. My next book shall be 'The Fellowship of the Ring' by JRR Tolkien.
Anyone who likes reading Tolkien books should stop by the Tolkien Club (Link in my sig)
