Yes. Melee is hype and top level shit, although there's no 64 around me and I bet that is some dope ass shit as well, probably not as fast paced though. Melee is really where it's at, but it looks like you can sort of wavedash in smash 4 now that they added some sort of mechanic, let's hope it brings the scene to bigger and better places. It's at least a one hour drive to the nearest serious tournament, so, I don't go much anymore. I want to get out to more though.

If any of the members from back in the Brawl days ever look back to this thread and have interest in discussing Smash and playing again when Super Smash Bros. Ultimate starring Daisy Ridley releases, I have made a Discord server dedicated to the group that got on Xat to chat and play Smash often.
New members are welcome, but don't expect an active server.
Off topic, but this was made in '04?? I was literally a toddler when the you made this! You mention Melee cause at that time it was THE Smash game to play on the GameCube! Fast forward 20 years later and we've gone through three more titles to what I can say is the end of Smash Bros! I ended up getting into Smash just at the last stretch with Ultimate. Definitely can't share ANY experience with playing Melee, but man! You must've watched the entire Smash Franchise grow into what it is now!
Anyway. Since Ultimate (and Smash4 too) is the only game I can speak of, I main Yoshi and Lucina.
Mostly played Melee and Brawl. Wii broke in 2014, so the latter was out of the window ever since. While my Gamecube's disc drive was still working, I played more during those later years following. Still have yet to get any of the later games, let alone even the consoles, besides playing a bit on friends' devices at times.
Main: Young Link, Toon Link(Brawl and 4; secondary in Ultimate)
