Every 3DS will soon not be able to work. The Pokemon Gold and Silver are likely be unable hold a save state due built in clock in them. Showing an expiration date is a bare minimum.

To clarify the clock was meant for the day and night cycle and calendar. It is not a intentional self-destruct switch. Another experiment to put in play, as several in each version of the Gameboy like solar power mechanic in Boktai. Still not seeing this outcome when this happen to watches does raise questions.
