Many people have told me my art is reminiscent of Max G and early 2000's internet art

Yeah, I can see it, but with a softness and sometimes sweetness that I like. 😄

When it comes to making characters, I say I have my own weird unique style, but landscapes, gotta be either @Waterflame style, or Nes style

I can def see Waterflame as an influence on your art, especially the flat, lineless pixel style. Your characters have a lot of life and humor to them! I like how they're chunky pixels too. I'd love to see more landscapes from you.

Imma compare meself to the goat (when it comes to sprite animation): @alvin-earthworm

Though if I would give my style a name, I would just call it Mickey-Mousing: reffering to how old cartoons (like old Disney, Looney Toons or Tom & Jerry) used to do their actions allong with the soundtrack.

Alvin Earthworm actually has a narrative going on with his series SMBZ.

But that's just something that kinda felt natural to do for me, I suppose, feels more satisfying in some way if the eyes and ears are kinda on the same page, while testing the animations while working on them:

A really REALY old one.

And a really slightly less old one.

I have other influences, like Tsukumizu and his sketch-like, but very beautiful backgrounds that I really like.

There's a lot of great manga styles from the 80s! The slice of life comics usually had loose, unconnected lines with simple watercolor or tones was an art. I can definitely see you're influenced by them. I think you should definitely push yourself in that direction. Are you using color pencils to get that nice speckled coloring on your art?

The best way I can describe my pixel art style (and also my game dev MO) is "Some weird bargain bin GBA game you found at the video game & DVD aisle of a gas station or pharmacy."

When it comes to my more traditional illustrations I'd compare it to the Simpsons or Futurama comic, or one of those Cartoon Network or Nick Magazine comic strips. While you recognize it as official work, sometimes the illustrator breaks rules outlined in the cartoon's design bible so if you just saw a panel or two out of context you could realistically mistake it for high quality fan work as well.

Fuck you give me money!

Yes, i use color pencils, and try to not put too much pressure. I also use different colors to draw a nice shading : If the surface is green, I'll shade in blue, if the surface is yellow, I'll shade in orange, etc... i use color theory that i recently learned about :)

I also like to draw gradients

I'm still experimenting a lot with the style, but as you wrote, i should explore more into this direction of slice of life / comedy style :)

Another movie with this style with loose, unconnected lines and watercolors I like is "My Neighbors the Yamadas" :)

You've definitely got the spirit of GBA, and I might add a bit of Toejam & Earl. I really like the Memphis design sprite banner on your page. Your use of 1990s colors is awesome.

And you have a nice clean style for your traditional art, which was really common in the 1990s. Flat coloring is the best. 👌

I like that you're pushing two styles rn, the flat style and the watercolor like style. The background on From Dusk is aesthetic as hell. Animation-wise, you're definitely good at motion. If you're feeling something's missing, maybe some training is in order? I feel that way sometimes, and I find training on anatomy, perspective, and other aspects of art helps. Practicing art is the gym of art! Work them hand muscles (and brain muscle!) 💪

No worries! I think you did an awesome job!

No! You're the first, so OK, I guess I'll go!

I call my style PC-108, as I idolize Japanese anime, manga, and games to an extent that is insane. I lived in Japan at the very end of the Showa Era, and that was the height of Japanese creative output. The anime was so flat and shiny. The video games were like nothing I'd ever seen. I chased drawing like a manga artist and copying video game art styles like crazy because of this short time I was in heaven! I'm heavily inspired by CLAMP's Mokona, especially her work in Tokyo Babylon, that beautiful flat color tone, and a lot of the anime of late 80s to late 90s. I loved that flat style so much.

I think a lot of my facial expressions and movement come from anime as well as Looney Tunes and MGM cartoons, especially the works of Tex Avery and Chuck Jones. I like going extreme with faces, and since I've been animating more lately, I've been trying to push the squish and squash. I've actually been going back to a love of mine, the Sailor Moon anime, to look at all the goofy frames in the comedy bits.

Since joining Newgrounds my style has been getting dirtier, like the lines are more rugged now. I like how loose and raw the Newgrounds style is, so I'm trying to incorporate it. I'm trying to get less stiff, more fluid, more raw.

Bringing in the Newgrounds gets us back to PC-108. Since incorporating into my style, it looks like the natural evolution of the PC-98 computer style to me. And if PC-88 evolved into PC-98, I am PC-108. 😄

I'd describe mine as having a hit or miss with semi realist proportion. And also having coloured / lineless linework to boot. Said lineless / coloured lines was inspired by Dreamflowery for how good they look albeit it's such a tedious process to do, but it at least ends with a good outcome.

Been improving slowly so far eversince I took an internship to an animation company with my latest work. I just wish my instructor never finds out what the hell I'm using the knowledge he gave me for lmao.
