HEY YOU. got a personal site? then i want you

this is the newgrounds webring, a place for peeps to share their personal websites, blogs, or art sites and do collabs

for the uninitiated a webring is a series of websites that link to each other. they were extremely popular back in the 90s and early 2000s and continue to be on the indie-web today. the goal here is to create a webring for newgrounds creators(programmers, artists, anything really.) so we can link to and help each other grow and maybe encourage more people to make their own websites

the goal of this first collab is to make a button for your site (read below) and a page to link to the rest of the ring. then i will compile everyone's sites into a video showing off our websites.

the rules are simple:

1. have a personal websites.. duh(if you don't, neocities is free and is a lot of fun. i highly recommend it)
2. sites are M rated at most. basically things that would be rated A on newgrounds aren't allowed in.
3. have a button for your website
4. have a page on your site with everyone else's buttons on it(you can just copy the code from mine to make it easier, i will be maintaining it as often as i can). let your creativity go wild
5. post your website button with a link to your site here..
6. the webring it's self will be open for people to join indifferently, but the video has a deadline of march 20th. have fun.

so what is a button?

a button is a small(88x31px) image used to link to your site, like a tiny banner. you probably saw them before on people's sites. here is what mine looks like for example:

you can make them in any program you prefer but if you want something simple goblin-heart made a button maker you can use.

here are also some nice resources:

W3schools is great for anything programming related

freecodecamp has a free courses for html, css, and java script. they are pretty short fun.

neocities is a spiritual successor to geocities. it let's you host sites under 1Gig for free(or 50Gigs if you get supporter)

melon's Gallery maker is a tool for making image galleries. it makes making a gallery for your art a 1 click thing(ignore the activation code, it is just there for fun lol). melon also made a lot of neat things you might have seen before on the web so check him out.

This is great! I was going to wait to make a listing until we gathered some for sure collaborators, I'm worried this won't pick up much traction buried in clubs and crews

I have dynamic hosting from envs.net, so I could host an actually working web ring. Then you would be able to drop in a code snippet onto your site that shows a random 88*31 button from someone on the ring.

Hell, if there's enough submissions, we could submit a clickable gallery of 88*31s to the portal. Make that the web ring.

love those ideas. the idea was for people to create their own pages to put the links on(like getimiskon's lainring if you are familiar with that) and see how creative they make them, but your idea sounds great too.

add ya. make page or section on your site to put other ring members in. but you can add a widget too if you want.

* Button image (but unlikely it's URL) will definitely be subject to change.

that is oki. if you have the button on your site i can hotlink to it and it will update automatically if you change it.

I'm gonna look into webhosting this week and quit stalling, it's time I got around to making a site for this collab lol

i like option a. i cant tell if its like "from a predetermined list" or "you can literally put any image" kind of customization but i want the latter. idk if newgrounds has an api bc the second option wouldnt be possible without one

maybe the red squares can be buttons. like 2 of them to go from next to previous member. and maybe 2 for random website or to go to the main website for the webring

i prefer C but A is pretty awesome too.

perhaps for option A any member of the webring who did fanart for a newgrounds stable character(and is oki with adding them to the web ring) can contribute an artwork.

k-cottonears is deleting their presence off newgrounds and neocities(blog post here) so the webring widget will from now on be hosted on my page. if you use the widget make sure to update your code or it will be broken
