I'm never one to try to put myself out there in the past. At least in terms of actually 'advertising' myself cuz I never felt my junk. I already made a thread about OCs so why not just my general stuff? I usually favor my sketches than the final product so I'll just post the sketch then link the final product (if you are interested.) Critiques are welcome (but do not make me cry!)

I don't plan on posting these in any particular order so I'll just start off with my most recent one.

Here I tried getting weird with poses while referencing moves from the game. I 'attempted' to use 2-point perspective but it just ended up looking more... idk. But I liked how I finished it.

I tried emulating this crummy looking SFA3 box art. But I used the picture gimmick last minute with previous sketches(and my move of reference) in the background

This came out of inspiration of someone making a thread about studying art styles from the Sonic series. I was getting into a nostalgic Sonic high again so I looked up Sonic Adventure era art which is my favorite. All that noodle-y shit. I also spent a stupid amount of time trying to emulate the background shapes of my reference being Satoshi Okano's SA1 design entry!

The final result is probably my highest effort to digital painting so far.

My wackier attempt at a perspective piece. 1-point of course but still.

The idea here was Guard Break from the EX series to Focus Attack from SF4 and then finally to SF6's Drive Impact. I think I finished the ink version since July of 2023. Just didn't get around to coloring it cuz I was scared!

This here was pure painting practice. The grayscale method specifically.

The reference.

One of my traditional art pieces. I did this at work temporarily working at the liquor store section. Did this pretty far back as you can see at the top right. Some ferryman character inspired by death metal. Specifically Incantation's Entrantment of Evil album.

On deviantArt, this was probably my fastest growing one in terms of views and favs for some reason. I guess everyone needed a nebulous short haired boxing girl. Also I forgot to give the gloves a cast shadow in the final product lol

Some trend I saw on twitter so I wanted to do it. Also play Fighting Vipers 2

Speaking of black metal. Early brazilian underground. Mild nsfw.

Just trying to mess around with screentones and such. Used a manga series I enjoy a lot as reference. One of the last things I did for 2022.

iu_1167852_19026699.webp

Said series being Crows x Worst

The oldest finished piece I posted here so far. 2018 maybe? Last big pixel art project I did.

Coloring ain't great lol but I always intended it to be nothing more than a rough sketch. I think I colored it in mid-2022 but the sketch itself was WAY earlier. It's a character from an obscure og Xbox beat 'em up called Spikeout Battle Street. I like it but it's hard as balls!

iu_1168024_19026699.webp

The character in question is Min Hua.

iu_1168025_19026699.webp

It's somewhere around here.

brain fart. I forgot to finish that sentence. Plus bad choice of words.

"...cuz I never felt my trash was good enough to show off in various places." Was what I meant to say.

First piece of 2023! Tia from Breakers Revenge! Great obscure fighting game! And a drawing where I try to make legs as detailed as they needed to be.

Aint nothing Shameful about this art, pal! You got a great style and are improving with each drawin by the looks of it :)

Plus i have a huge soft-spot for fightan gaem characters, and you nailed them! I think in terms of videogame art theres no better genre to study character design than a good ole fashion Fighting game. Now i gotta go find that OC thread you mentioned lol ill be following anyway to see what else you come up with :P

No fear. No pain.

Yeah. Mid to late 90s Capcom and SNK got me in the feels as a teenager. Tried getting as much artbooks be it physical or pdfs. Might even share my high school sketches.

Great to see you practicing and learning, with a wide variety of character types and poses. Love to see it. Keep it up!

I do notice a bit of perspective and proportion errors. It looks like you are studying to get better at that, so that's a good thing. Drawing more poses from reference should help you with improving in that aspect.

One thing in particular I notice is that sometimes you seem to be drawing the arms a bit too small. From experience I usually find it's better to draw the arms bigger than I would instinctively. Typical human arm span is actually pretty wide (usually about equal to the person's total height). While stylized anime/comic influenced characters tend to have even longer arms in relation to the torso, to balance out proportions of a large head and long legs.

So I just need to exaggerate the limbs just a bit more? I see. Feels like I have that trouble mostly with female characters

I wouldn't say exaggerate necessarily, more just making adjustments to the proportions to make them feel more balanced to the eye. For example, when I'm using a photo reference for anatomy, and am drawing a stylized comic style character with a big head and big eyes, and long legs, I will adjust the other features to be bigger or smaller, to maintain visual balance wherever it feels necessary.

Just generally practicing drawing from photo reference more should help you improve with your proportions and perspective, and natural posing, so that is what I recommend to focus on the most. It will form the foundation for you to work off of. Then you can hone your approach for adjusting balance by eye after. Here are some resources I have found useful for pose references

Did this for a thumbnai for a Fighting Vipers 2 Guide. Not proud on how I made that guitar but I like how I made the black gunk seep up Raxel's shoes.

Uhhhh so I started sketching this (traditional) some time before Valentine's, inked it around the end of the month, then halted on all art related stuff. I technically worked on 4 things, one of them being the Karin doodle, but I was more focused on art stuff and left this scanned alone for almost a month. I posted a sketch here and there but in general, I was NOT in a mood to do full pieces atm.

Shading, colors and clouds were done digitally. I've been also trying to find a way to make clouds blend in better with my more cartoony style more. The way clouds looked on, say, that Ryu piece looked like I photoshopped clouds in the background even though it's just me fucking around with the watercolor brushes. Rough Wash fits more with my current skillset and I like how it looks!

Also started this at a time where I do basic perspective after criticism trying to do something wacky.

So right now I'm getting the drive to finish up what I started hence this.

At first, I just wanted to make a slightly risqué monster girl but later tried to make it an actual character. I think its the first character sheet I've made. I'm just in a mood to make doodles of this friggin' mutant for fun
