Tim Burton! Overused? DEBATE! *slaps table*
I should be able to celebrate Halloween for reasons other than worshipping the devil and here's why:
Before I start explaining stuff, let me quickly give a little backstory.
I was raised in a Christian household and was Christian until 2020 when I willingly strayed away from the Christian path. There was this one moment when I was very young I was out trick or treating with my sister and this one lady said "Oh sorry, we don't do Halloween. We're Christian". This stuck with me because I was like "Wait, but I am Christian. Am I not a Christian if I don't celebrate Halloween? I also remember my parents invited her over and she mentioned how we celebrated Halloween. She said something like "You know It's worshipping the devil, right?".
Throughout my life, I've been asking Christians whether or not they celebrate Halloween and to explain why, if they don't. I've heard answers like "It's about worshipping the devil." and "God doesn't want us to celebrate something that worships evil". All a bunch of answers like that. I've taken these answers and thought long and hard about them.
So, celebrating Halloween is apparently worshipping the devil; however, what if I were to say I am not celebrating it for that reason? What if I were to say I am not celebrating Halloween as a form of worship to the devil?
Now, you could be saying something like "Well, even if you say you're not worshipping the devil, you still technically are by taking part in the activity and theme of Halloween". So, according to their logic, even if I don't celebrate a holiday for it's intended purpose, I am still (even if I don't realize it) celebrating it for its intended purpose. Then I started to ask myself the question, "Do Christians really stay true to this logic?"
Christmas was a pagan holiday, not a Christian one. The original pagan holiday was all about celebrating the pagan agricultural god, Saturn. In the bible, it says that you must not worship any other god. So, if we apply the same logic that Christians applied to us, then they are all sinners if they celebrate Christmas. But of course, they aren't all sinners because most of them don't even realize that it isn't actually a Christian holiday.
People over many years decided that Saturnalia can be celebrated as a Christian holiday instead of a pagan holiday if you want to. So, by my logic, Christians have no right to say that I am wrong for celebrating Halloween. I believe that I have proven that by Christian logic, I am allowed to celebrate Halloween for something other than worshipping satan.
If I can't celebrate Halloween then, Christians shouldn't be able to celebrate Christmas. Fuck you, Mrs Crossley. I can do whatever I want.
Side note:
I'm an idiot so please let me know if there is something about either of the holidays that I either missed or overlooked.
