@WAConline I agree, like a podcast or something
@BrentHeMan, I can't even pick the Electronic station to listen on Newgrounds radio, among other genre stations.
If you fixed this, maybe I could listen to the Electronic station all the time.

There is only one station now and it's mainly electronic.
Is there any way I can sign up for a radio show? I'd absolutely love to throw my hat in this, I've ran a few college radio shows in the past and love doing it!

NG radio is a bit of a different kind of radio. I'm sure some normal announcements could be programmed to go on at certain times with headlines relevant to NG, but as is, it's kind of like AI DJ internet radio from Newgrounds

We do live shows now too. @GENCER someone should reach out to you shortly (if they haven't already)!

Oh wow. I stand corrected. It's been a long time indeed since I took a gander at the radio. If you need any back end support like SFX and such, let me know who I can reach out to for that

Any way to have the player on the front page as an overlay that persists despite changing pages instead of opening a new window?

This might be something we look at doing in the future but it's not possible right now.
during one of the songs before this NGPR it said something like "newgrounds radio is offline please refresh the page" and i saw the listener count go from 12 to 9 to 12 again i found it very funny

this happened. BrentHeman made it ALL one station.
I make Voxel art in 16 and 32 bit styles from sprite sheets, because voxels are cool.
I know we have a "maxx in the morning" every other Sunday, any chance we can get a more consistent show (talking about updates, events, winners, etc.) @TomFulp
lol, love the vinyl record pops in all this Micheal Jackson music
It's all weird experimental music, I just want to listen to rock, where's the stations?
Are there plans to re-hype the radio? I kinda just didn't know about it until I saw an old flash game that inspired it. (also after looking through the thread, it seems like there is a lot of desire to make more stations dedicated to specific genres, which I must agree with)

No categories?! I'm out. I can't listen to electric music entire day. I'm metalhead.

I'm not gonna lie I was initially open to the whole "one station" deal cause I wanted to try listening to the broader selection of NG music but then my general taste in music was like "aw hell naw to the no no no" and I've not touched NG radio since.

I bet someone has already mentioned it on here, but, a live chat would be dope. Listening to the Niall session right now and it's gold so far lol.
Is there any chance of bringing old radio with stations?!? Podcast on Sundays is cool and all, but the amount of them is limited, becuase it is choosed by people/ratings (I don't know which one) + plus there may be no from ceartain genres because of how specific they are.
I miss the old NG radio since it allowed me to find some diamonds, often never noticed by anyone.

It is true the categories are gone. Its a compromise that was made to keep the radio alive. However, we are 100% open to requests and playlists! If you have a certain day you want the radio to play Metal, just message us before the next month starts! We're down to play anything at any time!

Think you could ask to have the newgrounds chat implemented onto the radio page so it could have a live chat?

You can listen to radio while in chat, it's the musical note icon in the upper right
So I checked out the radio. I have many thoughts, and I am about to be very harsh. Keep in mind, the roasting to follow is because I see the potential of randomly pulling tracks to listen to in the background, and I'd like it to reach that potential someday.
A) Maybe I'm just coming in at a bad time, but I was the only one who was actively listening to the thing when I looked at it. Part of that is probably because...
B) The radio is not advertised on Newgrounds at all. You have to go to audio, then spot the 'radio' tab, which is mixed in with the other tabs with nothing to indicate that the radio is something special. Then again, as is, it might not be a good idea to promote the radio right now because...
C) The radio is so bare bones right now that I had a hard time figuring out what it even was. As things stand, it seems to be a persistent platform that streams an album of handpicked tracks. After digging through this thread, it seems the albums are assembled monthly by admins via a mix of user requests and their own discretion. My overly logical brain is seething at how impractical that is when having it pull random tracks is so much easier and requires so much less regular work.
D) I do, however, like the ability to go straight to the track's main page and musician profiles to give ratings/follows.
One last thing that might be sacrilege, but I don't see the logic of having the radio be stream-based. Like, what takes up more site bandwidth? A single stream of random music constantly playing that all users can access? Or giving each user their own instance of random music in a non-stream format? I genuinely don't know. I'm not a tech monkey.
But I can say with certainty that the non-stream format would allow a lot more customizability than what is possible right now. From what I can tell, the main reason so few feature requests for the radio have been fulfilled is because of the logistic problems of the streaming format. For example, you can't have users be able to change to a different track if the current one isn't to their liking because everyone is listening to that song (all one of them at the moment). In a non-stream format, not only would it be possible to implement that feature, it would be entirely possible to allow each user to customize their own listening experience.
Not to say that a radio stream format could work, and I gather that the idea of having Newgrounds original radio shows has come up already, but based on what I've seen from other radio stations/companies, that requires basically a constant stream of new content coming in at almost all hours of the day, and I gather that we don't have the manpower or budget for that to work.
As I said, I love the idea of the radio. It allows users to potentially discover artists that would have gone under the radar otherwise. Not to mention it provides a consistent source of original music without having to search and select new tracks by hand. But the current format needs serious work.
Thanks for the detailed feedback. Radio is still a work in progress that will improve over time.

Remove the "Welcome to ng radio" voice it sounds like doo doo
Greetings,
I was trying out the Newgrounds radio for the first time today. First, I would like to say it has lots of potentials. The radio gives ordinary artists (musicians) a platform and chance to be heard, unlike other current platforms. What I find unique about the radio is its current bareness. With such simplicity, the audience can focus more on the radio's endless array of songs. Nevertheless, I would like to offer some feedback that I hope is viewed as constructive.
I noticed one of the songs played was titled "R*** Pirate." I am not one to argue about morality, but the lyrics may be out of line for some people and perhaps insensitive to real-life victims of such an atrocity. I would recommend giving a preview of the title of the next song that is about to play, given that I am unsure whether the songs are moderated. Perhaps artists (the users) submitting their songs could rate them on the E - A spectrum already in place moving forward.
The first point sort of ties into my second one. The radio can offer a feature where live listeners can rate the songs. I would rather not spend time listening to a song with a shallow reputation or credibility. Without advocating for reception from the audience regarding songs that are playing live, people may not listen to the radio for long. The ratings (one to five stars) give an audience a voice.
Furthermore, I was disappointed that the radio stopped playing songs because a podcast was being streamed. Some, like myself, may not be interested in listening to podcasts. I also personally did not find the podcast interesting. I do not mean to be offensive in saying that, but my interest in listening to the radio was compromised by a podcast that I did not find to add any value. Perhaps podcasts can be streamed elsewhere.
I have used newgrounds on and off for about twenty years. I have seen how the website has changed through those years with each return. I am excited to be back again with a new perspective and respect for newgrounds and its content creators. I hope my feedback adds value and is a helpful insight.
