You absolutely don't have to worry about flagging something old and reporting it here. If it is in fact breaking the rules, you will be rewarded, because sometimes we do miss things! Before there was an automated system in place to catch thefts, it was a lot easier or stolen content to get through filters, especially if it was unknown. I have found stolen submissions as far back as 2006, so don't be afraid to go hunting.

Also, even if you mistakenly flag something, but you mean well, there is a chance you will not be punished. The flags can simply be cleared by a moderator, without affecting your whistle status. However, if you consistently make wrong reports or abuse the flagging system, for example, by flagging things you simply don't like, or consistently misunderstand the rules and how to flag, you can be punished. Usually instead of doing this though, I will just send them a PM to stop flagging X, Y, or Z, because it isn't rule breaking. Then if they continue, I'll punish them.

If you have a question about a submission and whether or not it breaks the rules, don't be afraid to ask here too. As long as you are genuinely trying to help, there's nothing wrong with that!
