Brilliant, Sense-Offender! I intend to pay you for your answer.

Hey guys. I just got done listening to The Dark Saga by Iced Earth. Really enjoyed it but thought it was a bit short. Any recomendations on albums from them in particular. I intend on exploring them all but would like to know where to start : )

Any recommendations oh lord of the universe and all things inside it?
Was it you I sent it to? I cant remember who I sent Tyr to over AIM and they got all kljlkdf cause the vocals were clean. Might have been someone else. The subject just brought attention to my horrible memory.
RoseSOAS: you should know i dont think this far ahead
Me made simple: well you already thought as far as holding a chicken while in your underwear

on top of the ones listed by Ghoul i would say Peste Noire and the new Sat album is indeed a let down especially after already having Dark Medieval Times and Nemesis Divina :(

Burnt Offerings and Something Wicked this way comes i can recommend and stay away from the latest album with Tim (Ripper) Owens doing the vocals cos he just can't compare to Matt Barlow never in a million years :|

And Nev, I do like Opeth. Just not as much as I like Gorgoroth. I got Pentagram yesterday.
WHEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!
I'll try and get Ad Majorem Sathanas Gloriam as soon as I can.

Fixed.
Also , I just listened to some dream theater, and I thought it wasn't good at all.
I really don't see what you guys like so much about them.

NO!

Megadeth AND Dream Theater > Slayer

I'm going to check out Emmerson, Lake and Palmer soon since I find Gred Lake a great singer and am quite disappointed that he was on only the first 2 King Crimson albums.

I like The Glorious Burden, especially the Gettsyberg 1863 trilogy. Tim Owens may not be better than Barlow, but I still think Owens is good.

Other than Reign in Blood, I don't find Slayer very good. Maybe there's something from their first two albums that I should check out. I did listen to South of Heaven and Seasons in the Abyss. They weren't good IMO.

Give it another listen to. You may have not liked it the first time, but you might like it the second time.
I really don't see what you guys like so much about them.
John Petrucci is an awesome guitarist and Mike Portnoy is an amazing drummer. :P

You forgot Myung being an ace bassists, Rudess/Moore/Sherinian being an ace keyboard and LaBrie being an ace singer :P.

They're all geniuses with their instruments. Like proper virtuosos.
You've got your normal metal, with awesome guitarists and that, with crunchy, filthy, god-like riffs. Awesome.
But then there's Dream Theater. Sheer musical wonderment. They all know their instruments so well, and not only compose great songs, but more often than not great masterpieces, like those classical compositions which we look back on.
There's something about Dream Theater that levels them higher than most other rock and metal bands that i've heard.
At first though I was unsure, especially with James' vocals. I was expecting more harsh vocals which are usually apparent in the metal genres, but his voice is much more versatile.
Plus i've grown to love their epic concept albums and various imagery aswell as the music, and the lyrics are so powerful.
I know it sounds pretentious, but they really are pure awesomeness.
Yes, i did in fact notice their mastery of instruments.
But , i just thought , i lacked that tiny little 'zing! that , in my opinion makes music great.
Also , i thought it wasn't heavy enough.
So , IMO it was .... boring, however , don't deny the quality of the music.

I suppose that's fair enough. Dream Theater aren't that heavy alot of the time, in the sense that they don't have a lot of tracks which are predominantly or totally heavy.

Agreed. Not my thing. They are amazing musicians, they just don't do anything for me....maybe if I give them another chance. Recommendations for songs?

I got into an arguement today with this kid about my music. I was listening to Epitaph and he was like, "This is the most horrid music I've ever heard. Do you even understand what he's saying?" All I said was, go play it. Vocals aren't important.
How Far To Asgaard (the song) might just be the best piece of metal I've heard in a while.
And if I didn't go here, then I wouldn't known about Tyr.
And just like that....he was gone...

Just came back from Generation Records and purchased these CD's:
Overkill - ReliXIV
Fleshcrawl - As Blood Rains From The Sky...We Walk The Path of Endless Fire
And now I'm broke, so those will be my last two for a while.
Former iron fist mod of the NG Featureless Chat from May 23, 2012 to May 4, 2014.
I would like to join. My favorite bands so far are Three Days Grace and Disturbed. I've also taken a great liking to the song "Down With the Sickness" by Disturbed, in their album The Sickness.

Do. That and Under the Sign of Hell are Gorgoroth's best CD's.
And Kiddmeizter, Slayer was a mediocre 80's band who had one good CD and a whole bunch of other mediocre CD. If you want good 80's thrash, listen to Sodom. Or if you want black/thrash, listen to Bathory's first four CD's. Them>slayer.
