Demilich do not have great production.

Demilich's vocals are average.

They're not fast

They're not horribly hard to play.

However, Demilich>every other death metal band for the sake that not everything fast and br00tal is good and that they had the guts to do something that was genuinely dark and fucked up, instead of the blather known as death metal and grind, which is more boring than anything Demilich ever did. I mean, if I wanted to listen to the sound of jackhammers, I'd listen to jackhammers. I listen to music for music, and Demilich are one of the few non-gaythenburg musical death metal bands with a clear sense of melodic direction and overarching perspective.

In short, progressive=good. Anything else sucks. I mean, you can try to be the fastest and the br00talest. But in 5 years, somebody's gonna be faster and br00taler. Then you're music is inherently worthless. But if you actually take the time to write good songs, then your music is timeless. Demilich is timeless.

And yes, your point is still valid, a lot of Death Metal is bland and boring.
But Demilich aren't any differ. They're just the Progressive equivilant.

So has anyone else listened through the Dethalbum yet? The production values are great, and the extended songs are awesome. Some great solos in there. The new songs are also very awesome, The Lost Vikings seems to have influences of something, but I can't place quite what.

Death metal may be bland, but it certainly isn't boring. It's fast paced and has crazy guitar work all around it. It's good that it mostly sounds the same, because if you like one band, there are plenty that sounds like them.

I dunno about that, most of the DM I listen to I can tell each band apart quite easily, though I guess overall alot of the bands have similar properties.

Sure, I like Heaven And Hell, but Paranoid, Master Of Reality, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and Sabotage own everything Dio ever did with Black Sabbath hands down.

Man, being in Australia sucks at the minute.

The only metal band we have touring is Napalm Death.

I've got no gripe over Napalm Death (just not that big of a fan), but when it's the ONLY metal band touring, it's really lame.
