Nemesism66 seems to be getting a lot of UNCH's, a +0.02 for me to make up for that UNCH from last week's update, ramagi, bila and alexsmolik seem very consistent with .01 increases. I wonder if _altr_ and Captain_Bob are crying for no gains at all. _altr_ said he is guaranteed to pass me in VP in the "long battle"... it would be funny if he drank too much beer in which he would forget to deposit so that everyone would pass him on the VP list. haha

It's really impressive the way you took over the 2nd spot YoinK. With your high experience there's very few people who can challenge you as long as you keep up with the deposits. That's what this list is really about.

Actually, on the other list, if you mean SK's, ties are broken by signup date as well. Ties just happen far less often, due to the xx.xxxx format. Doesn't mean they still can't happen.

As for using a non-related stat to break ties... that may be. But it's a NG tradition. It's how ties on ALL the lists are supposed to be broken (well, on the exp and b/p and some other lists I believe it IS how ties are broken... perhaps the top 10 reviews list, too). But there is one list that uses exp (for some strange reason) instead of signup date: the stickers list. O_o

Right, if it wasn't sort like that then how would it be? First to reach that amount? IDs sorting isn't directly related but it surely makes sense. :)

LOOK at that. Just look at it. The beauty of it. From #300 up to #274... there is NOTHING but either positive VP change from exp, positive VP change from exp AND b/p rankups, or one UNCH. (sniff). No negative VP changes. Now THAT's pulling together (much to Kiba's disappointment, I'm sure, but still). Quite admirable. Thanks, Yoink. I figured you, and some other diehards would appreciate me getting it done ASAP (I got back home at 10 PM my time, 11 PM NG time, from my roadtrip to meet teh great Tom Fulp, so... I went straight to work on the update right after getting some b/p and depositing on non-NG sites first). And so I did.

Well, alex, ramagi, and bila don't have IDENTICAL exp amounts, so they're all different in terms of how often they'll get +0.02s instead of +0.01s (and sooner or later, UNCHs instead of +0.01s as well), but yeah... they're more or less consistent, for now. None of them is TRULY getting 0.0100000 per week, of course.

Lastly, wishing for _altr_ to forget his deposits, b33r or no b33r, is kinda like wishing for humantarget to forget his. Neither is going to happen more than once in a year, methinks.

It's really impressive the way you took over the 2nd spot YoinK. With your high experience there's very few people who can challenge you as long as you keep up with the deposits. That's what this list is really about.

But of course. ALL of us, especially the been-EGSCs-for-a-good-long-while folks like you and I and Crono and so forth... are chiefly striving to BECOME high experience users. Oh, that makes sense. Partly changing his list made me thought that it didn't sort like this for ties... I was wrong.

SK makes the list by using the experience pulls for all the accounts on the list + their b/p ranks... to calculate the VP the hard way (instead of just pulling it the easy way from our profiles directly like I do). He wanted increased precision, just like our thanks for voting screens have now... and as a result, he has far fewer ties than I do. But not 0. I guarantee you he has ties on most, if not all updates. And hell, probably just in the top 1000. I hardly ever look beyond the top 1000 VP.

Right, if it wasn't sort like that then how would it be? First to reach that amount? IDs sorting isn't directly related but it surely makes sense. :)

First to reach an amount of something might make sense in terms of some things like stickers... that are probably going to sit there at that amount and not move again. The first person to order that many deserves a higher spot on the list, yes.

But if we're talking about exp, say... and someone gets 5000 exp two years ago and stops depositing. Now, someone else comes along and hits 5000 exp... IMO, a list done that day, if sorted NOT by signupdate/IDnumber... should be sorted by LAST to get to that amount. Why? Because the guy I just mentioned is definitely passing the non-depositor the very next day anyway and should be rewarded instead of having to wait one more day. But eh... whatevah. #;-}>

That was the philosophy behind how I USED to break ties on this list. You know, back when I only manually broke ties in the top 100 (and let Excel do the rest by just how the people were lined up on the last update). I'd put people who were moving up a lot (+0.02, +0,03, +0.15, etc. etc.) ahead of people who were UNCH. or -0.01 or whatnot. Those were my "Robin Hood of the VP Top 100 List" days. That involved far too much manual labour. #;-}>

Yes, he was #2 to ramagi on the b/p list for a very very long time. He stopped getting b/p several times in the past year or so. No big deal, really... but now he's stopped getting exp, and yes... that is sad (except I'm sure Recon/Stormwarden/staphita/etc. don't think it's very sad, as they will soon benefit GREATLY from this fact).

Well, you could be at 10.835000 right now.

And last week you might have been at 10.814999.... meaning that my list thinks you went from 10.81 to 10.84 in 7 days (0.03) when in reality you gained 0.020001 or something. And if we backtrack further, and assume more or less the same gain the PREVIOUS week:

10.814999 - 0.020001 = 10.794998... or, IOW, 10.79... but that would have been 10.79 -> 10.81 = +0.02 last update.

However, as you notice, that's RIGHT on the verge of hitting 10.795 and thus rounding up to 10.80, which is where you were at on that update, I assume, and boom, 10.81 made my list say simply "+0.01."

In summation, I believe it was a combination of the above rounding factors that contributed to your huge reversal from 0.01 to 0.03 in a one week period... PLUS humantarget depositing late on some key day (possibly the day of this update (i.e. technically yesterday)... considering how HT is listed as 10 exp less than he actually was at at the end of the day, that makes perfect sense, actually).

The only reason I even noticed the discrepancy in his two calculations was because I was trying to work out when my accounts' levels would overlap (using Nem's calc and my chart) and started working out their VPs based on those. As near as I can figure, all four of me will be level 23 for just over one month ... in 6 years. As soon as they change the levels out that's all tossed out the window, but it was an interesting spreadsheet to make ;)

No, considering that I've told you the vagrant's name before, and I've used it to post, it's easily done to find its current XP, from which VP is simple math. Toss in the EGRL updates, and knowing that it's Vagrant2, and the VP bonus is tacked on just as readily. I know shak3s and MFAzoom are Vagrants 1 and 3, I just don't know which is which, so there's no real way to isolate it beyond four possible VPs.

I think that the issue has mainly to do with the fact that I usually (the caveat that I sometimes hit Post It! when I shouldn't lol) go back through what I've written to see if it's even worth posting. Per SK's calculator (the VP now, at least, has always seemed to be accurate) I was at 10.836 yesterday and now am at 10.838. Chances are that this was going to be a +.02 week for me anyway and that, last weekend, I deposited after your run and got a .01 instead of a .02. I ran some numbers back when I hit 16 and (IIRC) it appears that my VP pattern is supposed to run + 1 2 2 1 2 for most of the level. I just had a kneeejerk "huh?" when I saw a 3 instead lol

Back tracking, SK's again for ease since I haven't written a spread out for it, I was either at 10.801 (deposit before pull) or 10.797 (deposit after pull), neither of which gets me even to the round-up to 10.81, but either way it appears that I did actually get a +.03. I'll have to write some formulae of my own out and get something that's more consistent.

I didn't mention them either because I sometimes feel like I cheer them on almost every week, and surely other readers of the lists who perhaps aren't quite as known to me feel left out. Seeing as how neither James nor jon moved at all (net), I decided to let that speak for itself and we'll see what happens next week. I suspect James is going to hit a rankup here in the next few days... I wish jon was, but I think it may take a BIT longer.

Yeah, I can see how that concern might arise. Leave them to me then, I'm "just another listee" ;) James should hit it later today, and get him safely above the 100 barrier, but probably not far enough to avoid iam's knock week after next. Somewhere in between, I'd wager. I have that column set to round VP off to xx.xx format so it just plain tells me what to expect to see in my profile. And it does round properly, so worry not. Let's put it this way: the XTNL thing is right about 50% of the time (it's often off by 1 exp, but in a regular pattern, so I anticipate it... I've never figured out how to get the calculations for that part right, perhaps I should send you the .xls so you can see what I mean). But the base VP and total VP cells for each calendar date... have been right since September 3rd, when I began the .xls. So that should tell you how well it works. #;-}>

As near as I can figure, all four of me will be level 23 for just over one month ... in 6 years. As soon as they change the levels out that's all tossed out the window, but it was an interesting spreadsheet to make ;)

Yeah. I was lucky to avoid such things. I was mostly alone on my climb from 20,000 to 30,000, and that really helped... I guess I just... track just enough stuff for the whole list that I don't bother doing anything for my individual stuff on it. #;-}> I DO, however, in a spreadsheet, track my days at each base VP amount and total VP amount (right now I'm in a 6/7 cycle on base and a 4/5 cycle on total). Final Update: Saturday, March 19th, 2005

Welcome to this weekend's update and welcome to what is almost certainly the final unofficial update of the Voting Power List. Instead of a top 500 VP list, today's update is simply a Top 100. No one was added--or will ever be added again--to the spreadsheet.

In short, the user-run lists' golden age on NG has come and gone. We've been expecting this since January, when liljim let us know that NG had some plans for expanding the official list coverage. At the same time, he expressed concerns that auto-data-gatherers, such as the NG Lister, were not entirely harmless to the NG database. What HAD been a concern two months ago has apparently become much more than just a concern to the admins now. As a result, I hand-pulled today's abridged version of the list, and that should explain to you why it's not a full top 500 list.

I'm not sure how many updates of his original version of this list Captain_Bob ran back in early 2003. I only ever saw 2, but perhaps there were 3 or more. I do know that the spreadsheet I inherited from Newgrundling has 20 columns' worth of data, and I indeed saved ALL 20 updates of his list to .txt files back when I was just a fan of his list and had no idea I would go on to inherit it from him once he was done updating it. He updated the list from June 8th, 2003 to November 11th, 2003. As for the gfox era (December 2003 - March 2005): I updated the list 49 times. The first 19 were mostly 7.50+ VP lists with a few 6.00+ VP lists every 5 updates or so. The next 29 (up to and not including this one) were full top 500s, compiled with the help of SK's NG Lister. And finally, this last update returns to the manual methods I used prior to August 2004. I'm proud to say that all 29 Top 500 VP Lists were pulled and created and uploaded each and every Saturday for the past half-year. Today ends that tradition, and that's both a sad and happy thing. Feel free to pay your respects to the list and all its eras and generations, if you wish. But this doesn't have to be a funeral. How about a spirited wake, instead? It's only fitting two days after St. Patrick's Day, after all.

All of that said, I'll go ahead and finish up this list's user-made run with some commentary and this update's stats. Then, I'm going to assemble some special "end of list" stats in a separate post. And finally, I will post the top 100 list on its own. So... let's begin!

There were three rankups in the top 100 VP this week. Congrats to Jen_the_Great, PimpMasterKDOG, and FIGMENTUM. No EGSC or EGG rankups for a change, though IAmNone will hit it sooner or later. Future grats to him (it's hard to believe that there will then be 20 Elite Guard Supreme Commanders, isn't it?) and to all others I won't be congratulating here on high VP gains. xx.00 congrats are due to Mr_Snrub (aka merc_insanity) for breaking 10.00 VP. That brings us up to 67 people over 10.00. My how things have changed... when I began updating this list in December of 2003, there were just 30 people over 10.00. The newest one was Crono- (due to an EGG rankup), and I wouldn't join him there for another month (with my own EGG rankup).

Anyway, I'm happy that a lot of things happened before my era of updating this list came to an end. Mr_James got onto the top 100 (several times!), and jonthomson made it on as well... for one update in mid-February. And he'll be back in the top 100 soon enough. Just not MY top 100, that's all. So at least I have no real regrets in that area. And I've seen so many others come to this thread and want to be on this list... seen so many of you climb your way up, get motivated, and reach your exp and b/p goals to help you further your Voting Power. Some of you who were around #600 or so a year ago... are now up to #250 or #150. You've all done very well. And the top 100? Well, I don't need to say too much about us, do I? This one last update speaks volumes. As will the stats I'm about to post after this one. Bravo to all who've made this journey so much fun, and... filled with information and competition and--above all else--entertainment... much like the Newgrounds flash portal itself.
