Looking at it, I'm close on 2 more positions here, with carmelhadinosaur loitering with absolutely no intent and life loitering with a certain degree of intent. I'll see if I can overhaul these two by the next update, even if it is a short period of time away.

IMHO, it is time to introduce 30 more b/p levels and set the highest b/p level at 120000 points which gives an user 100 % extra voting power. Under the current system, an user becomes a Supreme Commander after getting 30000 points ----even the highest EXP level requires more points than that. Let's compare the following two users:
User A: 30000 EXP points, 30000 b/p points
User B: 29920 EXP points, 120000 b/p points
Obviously, user A's VP is better than user B's under the current system. But throw voting habits aside, it is clear that user B deserves to have more VP.
The current system is flawed.

That would be wishful thinking now wouldn't it. I sure wish it would go higher. Getting 30,000 to become supreme commander just isn't what it used to be.

I'd like to oppose your theory with a key few statements. When new users appear on the scene and look at having to achieve 120,000 B/P points to achieve the highest rank on this site, they may well be so daunted that they would just leave. No-one wants that. I was daunted by 30,000 B/P when I started to climb and a little moreso by the fact that the top B/Per, fixit had 49,500 or threabouts.

Let's compare the following two users:
User A: 30000 EXP points, 30000 b/p points
User B: 29920 EXP points, 120000 b/p points
Obviously, user A's VP is better than user B's under the current system. But throw voting habits aside, it is clear that user B deserves to have more VP.

Marginally more experience for user A makes such a huge difference to the state of play. This would alter their voting power by as much as 0.05 of a vote, thus rendering part 1 of the argument useless.

And if we drop a few names in here, we can get an even better view of how this is poorly researched. Let us assume that user A is life, who voted fairly for his entire career of B/Ping. He stopped at 30,000 B/P a few years back, his record impeccable.

Now, let us further assume that user B is Ultor, a self confessed twat, that doesn't bother to vote how he should, more to get the points. If you can honestly come back here and say that Ultor deserves a higher Voting Power than life, you're a fool.

The current system is flawed.

30 more BP levels is a bit excessive in my opinion. You'd need to think up 30 more BP badges and ranks as well.

I do agree that it would be nice if they introduce some more BP ranks though. I was thinking about four more, each giving you a 10% bonus to your voting power (so 70%, 80%, 90%, 100%). The requirements could be 40k, 50k, 75k and 100k or something and as for the badges, they could perhaps add stars below the Sup Commander badge. Calling them Sup Commander First Class, Second Class, Third Class, Fourth Class and Fifth Class or something like that.

Not at all. Why not have an upper limit? The system works alright at the moment. Besides, VP doesn't effect the scores too much, so what difference would it make?

I'm against using stats to motivate people. Look at how people have started playing games on the site since the introduction of medals. Would people have played Achievement Unlocked 1 or 2 to death, if there weren't medals there? Both enjoyable games in their own right, but promoted by the addition of stats. There are two ways to shoot this particular argument down:

1) Those of us that vote properly, i.e. vote on what they feel a submission deserves, as opposed to voting for points get a VP boost, but so do those with massive stat lines that vote with how they feel a submission will go. Thus it makes so little difference, to make no difference.

2) Submissions you see past judgement that have those low scores probably passed at 2.20+ They have just been voted down since judgement ended.

While altering the bar for submissions to clear judgement might help, it is not a simple process - statwhores will find a way, just as the spammers did in the past.

Disagree. I often see crappy flashes passing with scores around 1.65 after receiving 201 votes or so. Trust me, they barely pass and we can make a difference.

So 20.00 VP as the max? I'm not that opposed to that, though 16 has been the max for so long it's such an icon of NGdom.

120k? Jeeez... I dunno. I long ago said if they doubled EGSC to 60k, that wouldn't be so bad. The person who suggested a 100k top rank wasn't too crazy, either, but I'm inclined to agree with Coop that 30,000 is intimidating enough for the newbies.

And BTW, the only reason that the exp amounts are higher than 30k now is that Pimp and co. pushed them that high, and the upping from a 30 level system to a 60 level system might have done away with scaling, but it didn't do away with progressively-spaced levels. They had to go that high.

But b/p ranks weren't changed at that time... not to say they won't be in the next major redesign (which sounds imminent), but that's not to say they will, either. I think exp was kinda broken before the last redesign, and thus they changed the system. b/p wasn't broken then, and it isn't broken now (except for what people say about the whole blam/save balance being out of whack, which it is... but it used to be out of whack the opposite direction... maybe these things are cyclical).

Bottom line.... I don't want the temptation to resume b/p past my 2nd retirement goal. VP is high enough as it is for the 15+ers. Exp system and b/p system are apples and oranges.

I am slowly climbing up the ladder of EXP rankings. Hopefully, I will move up a spot or two in the next update of the TVPL.

Narcissus is about to pwn my shit, as he achieves one more B/P rank and desipite the fact that I've got 72,000 more B/P than him, I'll fall back to 38th.

Is Coop satisfied with this alarming turn of events? No! I shall have to pass life, who was a mere 2 deposits ahead of me, last time I checked, with 51 to go for Recon and 55 for CaptainBob at the present state of play. I wonder if I'll be able to land of 36 for next time?
