UPDATES, AND FAQ - Read this before asking for help.

If so, how do I put them in my game? If not, does anyone know when they will be open for everyone's use? I checked all of Tom's recent news posts and couldn't find the answer...

AFAIK it is still not open. I assume Fear was a game for testing purposes as well. I'm thinking the games thus far has been to gauge how to scale the points according to difficulty which is why the wide range of point values for difficulty levels. Or maybe its a test to see if people would still play the game even though its in so unrefined.

I was PMed the notification that Fear had medals by PsychoGoldfish so I assume the author worked closely with him to implement the medals and was privy to extra information..

That "attaching" isn't a glitch. Those suicide bomb monster grab you and blow up after some time. ;)

I was doing this for about five minutes and I only got her down to half health and then it glitched and I got stuck in the floor. Horrible, horrible, horrible game.

Yeah, before I beat her I played Stage 1 about 10 times, to power up my weapon... -.-

Okay, so that dragon wasn't the last boss. I beat him on Slayer difficulty now and the game continued. Very strange...

So... on mortal difficulty:
Stage 4 won't continue

On Slayer difficulty:
Stage 1 won't continue.

wtf?

Yes, the kills are not cumulative, you need to get 100 kills in a single match. Also, you may want to read the Medals FAQ, made by Wylo :)

Took me a good 6 hours straight, you're in for a treat. I had over 2,000 kills in the end and was ranked 4th on the leaderboard.

Carry on as usual, however:

I'd like some ideas on how to restructure this thread. Clearly people are are going to ignore top page postings re: LOOK HERE AT FAQ. I mean, some won't, but you can't tell who that is because they probably won't post.

Now that medals are picking up speed, the "HELP! + didn't read topic" posts are going to shoot up exponentially, as a function of the number of games with medals compounded with the growing size of the topic.

I'm considering remaking it with some clearer in thread instructions and policies.

A userpage that is solely dedicated to the medals FAQs might be nice. Wylo's page is sufficient for now, but I was thinking something that had a news post for each medals game, and the general FAQ for just that game, all linked together nicely with a Table of Contents, etc. We could make sure to get that account's link posted at the top of each page, and I'll straight up delete any posts that ask questions already addressed.

I'd like your guy's input - not on just this idea, but whether or not I should even remake this thread at all, and if you think so, how it should be run.

I won't actually do it for a while, but we can all see where this thread is heading in terms of post content.

Cheers!

Because I totally understand when people are coming into this thread it takes PAGES to find a new game, whereas if you keep it locked and keep adding games over time to the list they will be all on the same page.

Well, it's a good idea, absolutely. It would eliminate the need to maintain a userpage account (or at least make it redundant; I'll always be attracted to the organizational potential of those things).

However, we'd still need a general "bitch and moan and chat" thread for medals.

I'd keep the locked walkthrough thread in wi/ht and make a general thread in General? Hmm hmm.

That's a great idea IMO. But we would need someone to update that userpage, and he/she would need to work a lot because sooner or later the medal system will be free for all, so a lot of games will use it. It would be good to remake the thread so there could be more information on the first page, at least Wylo's blog.

I'm not sure if making the thread in General would be a good idea... There are too many people who only read the first(s) post and then just post a reply without reading the whole thread. But maybe we should give it a shot, I don't know.

Sure, I see more Medals thread pop up in the General forum than the Wi/Ht? still.

Userpage posts are nice, but I just don't see many people using userpages rather than the forum, especially for this feature which is growing pretty fast.

Some people will use it if it was mentioned on the first post of the thread. Besides, if someone asks something which is in the "FAQ userpage", we could redirect them instead of having to answer the same questions all over again (that's the point, frequented asked questions). Unless Zerok is planning to delete the repeated questions, which is fine in my opinion.

Yeah. It'd be a massive undertaking before long. I think I'll leave that idea alone and let any ambitious user go ahead and try it independently. A constantly locked and maintained thread that allows anyone to contribute walkthroughs (via PM, ---OR---- through "approved comment" format on a userpage... hmmm, hmmm!)

I'm not sure if making the thread in General would be a good idea... There are too many people who only read the first(s) post and then just post a reply without reading the whole thread. But maybe we should give it a shot, I don't know.

Oh, I know. =)

That's why the first post in the General thread would link to the FAQ/Walkthrough thread in Wi/Ht, as well as lay down several "ground rules."

Sweet.

Okay, I'd still like input on all areas of this idea, but also a new topic:

What do we allow in the General Thread?

- suggesting games that should have medals?
- complaining, bitching. (BUT NOT ASKING HOW etc.)?

These sorts of things.

See, we'd have to operationally define some things... I mean, do I delete a post that is well written, topical, but just so happens to give advice on how to beat Wadolf? I suppose we COULD just let it be a free for all (easier to mod, that's for sure) and let everyone know that they'll have a MUCH easier time if they look at the Wi/Ht thread.

Thanks for all your prompt imput - I've got a very good idea of how to structure this now. <3

A new forum for Games with medals would be nice. No one but admins and mods can open new topics there, so there would be only one thread for each game.
Problem is the FAQ would be accross the whole topic, because only admins can edit posts (I remember liljim editing a post once), and I guess they are too busy to keep the FAQ in the first post updated on a frequently basis.

Achievement unlocked does not deserve medals. Its just too redundant and too annoying to play. Stop suggesting this.

Well, if we're going to have a thread/userpage which contains walkthroughs for the games then there's no need to ask how to get the medals in the general thread (unless there's not a walkthrough for that game or the walkthrough isn't detailed enough). Talking about which games have/should have medals is OK, complaining about medals being too difficult/easy is OK too. Just like this thread, but without all the "how do I get the medals for this game?" questions.

See, we'd have to operationally define some things... I mean, do I delete a post that is well written, topical, but just so happens to give advice on how to beat Wadolf?

IMO it's OK unless the post was made especially to say how to beat Wadolf (or get any other medal). An example would be "I've been struggling with Portal Defenders for a while and I finally managed to beat the game. I never imagined that approaching Wadolf vertically could be useful!" I think that's OK since it's not made to say how to beat him, it just says he beat the game and mentions something that could be useful, but it's not like he's writing a guide or something.

I suppose we COULD just let it be a free for all (easier to mod, that's for sure) and let everyone know that they'll have a MUCH easier time if they look at the Wi/Ht thread.

It would be like this thread, and that means that with the time it would get too chaotic with so many games. But anyway it's up to you, if you think that modding the thread would be a pain in the ass then just allow those posts or you'll end up deleting things 24/7 in that thread.

A new forum sounds good, but it would be too complicated and I don't think it's going to happen... Though it would be great because it could be much more organized.
-

And I was thinking about the "medals faq/walkthrough userpage". It would have a post which is "table of contents", one which is more like a general FAQ (with information about that adblock thingy and stuff), and the owner of the medals wouldn't have to make all the walkthroughs. The profile information (the "blurb about you" thingy) could say something like "send your walkthroughs via PM to this account" (linking to the userpage owner). There would be a news posts for each game containing a little FAQ (like getting artifact 19 in Thing Thing 3), and walkthroughs if people (or the owner of the account) sends them.

The only new "concept" I'm talking about is the fact that the account owner doesn't have to make all the walkthroughs, people could send them too.

I could hold create the usepage if you want to, unless someone else wants to do it.

Ya, I was thinking about that same issue when first making up my blog post. Having a dedicated account with a multi-layered blog would be good once more games are out. I was actually going to switch things to my alt account once enough games got out and called for more organization.

I agree that the idea of a General thread for discussion, and give the impression that if they don't read the FAQ pages first, that their posts will be deleted, you don't necessarily have to mod it since its not that important of an issue. But I don't believe a walkthrough thread would be as nicely organized since you can't link to individual posts. If you were to make a walkthrough thread and lock it, then people would still have to link to it since it wouldn't stay on the first page of the forum or use the forum search, which hardly anyone does.

Throw enemies into the air and start hitting them as many times as you can. It's better to use a fast character such as Dan Paladin or April Fulp (if you've unlocked her) because they can hit many times in short time. Also the best time to do this is in the first wave against the kitty crew, try to trap them all in a corner and keep smashing the melee button ;)

you need exactly a thirty-hit combo, your best bet is the Kitty Krew, as they have no projectile (from what I remember) - try rounding them up in a little group, then keep smacking away until they're dead, if you do it fairly successfully, you'll get way over a thirty-hit combo, I think I ended up with fifty over.

Yeah. I have a feeling that'll be the best way to go about it. I can delete "how do I???" posts with no guilt because the first post will have clear directions on how to go about finding that shit out.

IMO it's OK unless the post was made especially to say how to beat Wadolf (or get any other medal).

Righto. Then I'd send a PM to the offending post's authour reminding them of the procedure.

Yeah. I have a feeling I might let it run rampant... but it WILL be easy to manage for these first few months (unless 4000 games appear with medals).

I could hold create the usepage if you want to, unless someone else wants to do it.

I've signed up http://medalsFAQ.newgrounds.com - BUT I do not intend to organize it with a TOC or any of that jazz. I'm thinking it'll have either one or two newsposts:

1) A post with Approved-Only comments so people can submit their walkthroughs. This way I can keep all submissions in one place and wont have to have them mixed in with my PMs. Also a PM option for longer entries. Or just PMs. Doesn't matter really.

2) A general medals FAQ (which will also be posted in the Wi/Ht thread).

Feel absolutely free to take it on yourself though. I'll certainly link any (and all) decently written attempts at walkthroughs in the Wi/Ht thread.

Indeed.

However I've found that BBS threads somehow carry more official "weight" to them than do userpages, no matter how nicely organized said pages are. I dunno why. It might not even be empirically true.

When I make the thread though, I will try to make it as navigation-friendly as possible.

I'll figure out a solid structure before I make it, and adhere to it and outline how it works in the first post. Utilizing Ctrl-F will be the key way to move about. At the top of each page I'll post an index of the previous page. Possibly, I'll use the medalsFAQ userpage to create a dynamic thread index.

It does seem inefficient to make the thread when I could do all this on a userpage (and have it structured nicer too), but again, having a BBS thread seems to create more of a feeling solidity.

And of course, I welcome anyone to actually go ahead and make the userpage that does this (and the main thread will link to you). However I would like to preserve the sanctity of Secret Medals - that'll be one thing I won't publish in the thread/blog (at least not detailed instructions).

There's also the possibility that ALL this stuff will be ported over to the NGMAG once it gets an overhaul... it seems like just the sort of thing that that section of the site should host... but for now, we'll work with what we have. =)

Sounds good. In the post with approved comments be sure to include something like "how to search: press ctrl+f and type the name of the game you're looking for" or something like that. That way people will know how to find stuff even if it doesn't have a table of contents :)

Further notes on FUI2:

To get the Sword Master thing you actually have to get it (sword, I didn't try with the blades... someone should) to Level 11, at least that was the case for me. Makes sense since it says upgrade 10 TIMES, but it's not intuitive.

Someone said the magic thing was buggered, maybe it's the same deal? I dunno.

Also, play M1 on Impossible mode. You rack up points A LOT quicker, and it's not any harder than "Slayer." There are more dudes at the end but they can be mowed down with the 'F' key spam.
