The first thing about blamming and protecting, is in the FAQs.
Secondly, blamming and protecting is something magical that occurs on our friendly little website of newgrounds.com there is a good number of users who are currently addicted to blamming and protecting, myself being on of them :P
As stated in the FAQ's, there are movies in the portal that have a grey background behind the name of the movie, these movies are said to be "under judgment" which means they are currently under review by the newgrounds blam and protect squad. as a newgrounds user, you have to click WATCH THIS MOVIE, to launch the flash, and once it has loaded, and a certain time has gone by (it's decided by the size of the file of the .swf) the voting panel will become visible, and now you will be able to cast your vote. As with any submission, you have the option to vote 0 through 5.
what is a blam? when a movie doesn't achieve a certain score in the portal, and is sent to the obituaries, it is said to be "blammed".
a movie will be "blammed" if at the number of votes, has a score lower than the corresponding.
50 votes - 0.60
100 votes - 0.75
150 votes - 1.25
200 votes - 1.60
what is a protect? if a movie is good enough, and it has a score of 1.60 or higher with 200 votes, it can enter the portal, and will remain in the portal, unless an admin deletes the movie (either by request of the user, or it breaks certain rules, like file swapping, or guilty of mass voting), or the user deletes it, as long as it has under 400 votes.
how do you get a blam? you vote either 0 or 1 on the movie while it is under review. if you vote 0 or 1 on the movie, and it turns out to be blammed, you wil be rewarded with a blam point.
how do you get a protect point? if you vote 2, 3, 4, or 5 on the movie, and it turns out to be saved, and is allowed to enter the portal, then you will be rewarded with a protection point.
there are a lot of shiny ranks that go along with blamming and protecting. take a peek at this page to view the ranks, the number of points needed per rank, and the bonus to your voting power (yes, the more you blam and protect, the higher your voting power will get, it takes your base voting power, and adds on your voting power times the percent that the rank gives you).
