Help rate new Flash in the Portal!

For those who are new to the site, or are not aware, all Flash that gets submitted to Newgrounds enters into the 50 Most Recent list in the Flash Portal. All Flash must pass through a judgment stage. For a Flash to survive the judgment phase and become eligible to stay on the site it must receive 200 votes and be above a certain score. It also must avoid having the whistle option used to alert NG administrators to entries which are stolen, or break other rules we have listed at the bottom of the Flash Portal Submission page.

We are always encouraging as many users as we can to help participate in this process. The more help we have, the more fair the outcome will be for the artist who submit Flash content to Newgrounds.

Users are rewarded for their efforts with various stats, but you have to have an account to record your stats, and a public profile to show off your stats. Creating an account is free; just click the sign up link at the top right corner of any Newgrounds page.

Also we appreciate anyone who can take the time to write a well thought out review to the entries they watch. Our artists enjoy feedback on their work. Just be sure to review the review guidelines so you will avoid violating them and having yourself banned from reviewing.

Also it is very important that you watch the Flash entries all the way through! Some submitters try to trick our viewers with an impressive opening, only to switch to something offensive, or crappy, later into the production. Most of our artists put a lot of effort into their entries, so please take the time to watch the entry before casting votes and leaving reviews.

Have things really gotten THAT bad on the Portal that you've got to encourage folks to vote?

If you enjoy getting Blam and Protect points, you can join clubs to discuss the portal, and boast any promotions you get

Newgrounds Police Department
Elite Guard Barracks

Once you get the correct rank, you can join these clubs!

I hardly ever come here anymore....

The more unique people voting, the more fair the outcome will be. Say we have 300 people actively helping right now, if that, and a group of 20-30 users, maybe with alts, comes along and accounts for 50-75 votes, many reviews, etc. Their effort can have a big impact. However, if we increase the number of unique active votes it makes it harder for groups to have a significant impact on the out come.

Also the more people involved with voting, viewing, and reviewing Flash, the more feedback and exposure the artist will get, and that is our #1 goal.

Nah, just sounds like a gentle nudge to the new people to start voting, reviewing etc. Probably directed to some of the veterans here too.

Speaking of which; you're own level have lowered lately, and when will the amount of votes needed for a submission to go through judgement become higher?

Not sure when and if we will raise the # of votes needed. Right now it still can take hours for an entry to get 200 votes. If it gets to the point where everything is passing judgment in a very short amount of time, meaning a lot of users aren't getting a chance to vote, then we may think about raising the # of votes needed. However, say we raise it to 300 votes, or 400 votes. All entries on the site would have to be over this # of votes or they would suddenly go back under judgment. We had this problem the last time we raised the # of votes needed. It took a good month or more for our users to bring all the old entries up to 200 or more votes.

I believe that ment some complicated programming for liljim aswell if my memory doesn't fail me.

However, the average submission (With an average file size, that is) normally goes through judgment in 30 minutes.

Submissions with a large file can stay for an hour or even an hour and a half, like you said. Those submissions with a small file size can sometimes pass much more quickly than that though.

And to the account of that, I myself have seen a lot of submissions appear as under judgement lately, when they've infact just passed a lot faster than usual. And I do believe that it will become a problem.

Just imagine days when the Portal is far more active for example.

We had this problem the last time we raised the # of votes needed. It took a good month or more for our users to bring all the old entries up to 200 or more votes.

Yeah, although, there are loads of people who'd gladly vote on whatever comes into the Portal, whether the submissions are new or old. And I can see how that could sort out some low quality submissions. And maybe even some would spot new light and exposure.

Yea okey doke. But, i don't think newcomers would bother to scroll down tp the news right away to be honest. Make that Newgrounds primer stuff more visible to the untrained eye, and then post this stuff there.
