"Use the searchbar"

Ok, this is a question to all you people who have ever posted this, and this is for people who disagree. Ok, let's say someone makes a thread that has been done before, right? Why do you feel the need to post "use the searchbar"? Let's get something straight, if someone makes a topic that has been done before, you say "Use the searchbar", then by that you obviously mean bump a thread that was made about the overused subject. But wait, when they DO bump the thread, you rip of them for bumping an old topic. Basically, what I'm saying is, unless you dont want to look like an idiot, and unless you give a link at least to a topic that isnt THAT old, then you shouldnt say it. The mods should make a rule against this.

Plus, it's annoying when you try to get your post count up by saying that.

Just my thoughts.

I think that "Use the searchbar" should only be mentioned when refferring to information, for example "What is a vagrant?", "Use the searchbar." They don't need to post in it and bump it, they just need to read the information.

Its alright to use it in the context of somebody asking a question about something that has been answered a million times. I was going to post a topic about the cat in the NG literature section, but then i searched, and i realised there are millions of topics already.

Nah, he just directed me to a topic where this might actually get taken into consideration. If it wasnt for his post, I wouldnt have even posted in the Evolution thread, because I forgot about it. :)

Yeah, there have been many topics about people annoyed at other people saying "Use the search bar."

Unless the user supplies the topic creator with individual topics that could be found by searching for a reasonable term.

By reasonable I mean whatever the topic is talking about, if the subject is somehow in the title (and actually CAN come from a search). If the topic is called something like "This game I bought" and then someone makes a topic about the same game, saying "OMG USE THE SEARCH BAR" won't be of much help, since the previous topic title didn't contain the name of the game in it and wouldn't show up in a search.

There are too many times when people say "Use the search bar" and using the search bar wouldn't really get the author many results as to what they're looking for due to abstract titles of all previous topics on the subject.

"Use the search bar" by itself is just a waste and will probably get you banned.
