The fallowing review is for Digimon World 4.
Digimon is an adventure game where you... well... I honestly don't know what exactly the long term goal is. My brother whored the game up for the most part so I'm not very far. Anyway, it's an adventure game. You start the game by choosing and naming 1 of 4 different digimon. The game starts with you being told you need to search for Leomon who is lost along with a team of like ten people. In my opinion, the games only real down fall is its load time. It takes like 10 minutes to go to town, go to the Item shop to sell of all the spoils you plundered, then go back to the Terminal area to go back into the arena. Any other game that would take like 2 1/2 minutes.
Battle
Battle is pretty average. you get basic attacks like stab, slice and stuff like that. You can only have up to five magics per digimon. battle is "running around stabbing things" set up as opposed to classic rpg turn battle.
Equipment
Here is another thing that adds to loading time. There are three sections in the "Home Server", they are Terminal area, Shop area, and Central area. You have to go to an area in the Central area called the Digi-lab to alter your digimon in any way. This includes armor, weapons, and shields. Armor and weapons can have mods. For those of you familiar with Phantasy Star on Game Cube, it's the same thing as slots. Bluntly put, you can add things to your weapons and armors to boost stats, or increase chance of critical attack and blocking.
the type of attacks you do ar based on what weapons you use. Daggers stab, Swords slash, and Axes are blunt. you get technique, or weapon experience for the type you use. certain digimon have a better growth rate than others with specific weapons. You need to improve weapon tech to use stronger weapons of that type. Note that there are many more types such as shot, crush, bash, and others.
Digi-Lab
Basicly you make all alterations (accept for mods) here. Here you change equipment or digivolve.
Digivolution
Basicly you change into another digimon. This doesnt mean stronger. at level 16, you can digivolve into another one of the other 3 starting digimon. At level 50 you can turn into a stronger digimon, and if you do side quests, and meat the quest requirement, you can digivolve into other things.
Side Quests
To unlock side quests, you must rescue Leomons crew whick was captered in individual containers you must shoot at while floating down a river. after rescuing them, you must reach a high enough level to be offered the quest.
all in all, I say it is an addictive game, the it does have a certain simpleness to it. I give it a 4/5. My recommendation is to rent it first to get a feel for it first, then buy it. It's some what new still so I cant in good heart say just buy it.
