Why not? Ten is a nice, even number.

Well, it just seems a tad bit random that they selected to have a cap that seems so low. But, I guess in all fairness, it shows who has the seniority, however they do have the join date on your post picture thing on the side.... So I'm really confused.

No problem. here ya go
In the beginning... Tom created Newgrounds.... Some other mumbo jumbo.... Then Tom created the voting system...
I've been a member for a very long time, and it wasn't always 10 exp points. I can't exactly remember, but way back, the cap was 5 points a day, I believe, one point per vote. Also, you didn't have to get exactly 5, you could just deposit 1 or 2 if you wanted. Then they made it 2 points per vote and a mandatory 5 votes per deposit. This is the reason why that all of the new people, have experince points in multiples of 10. If you look at my exp, I have a 9 at the end.
We figured 5 entires wouldn't be to much work for most people and it would encourage them to stop by the site each day. We know most people will view more than 5 entries though. Making people vote on 10-20 entries might be to taxing and more people would give up on trying to keep in the race all together. So keeping it at 5 votes allows more people to have the drive to come everyday and vote. Also when we established the system most people had 56k or slower connections.
5 is to little and 20 is to much. Or of course we can set it to ONE.

:O:O The nine is enchanting, I can't keep my eyes off it.
...the exp system is fine at 10 pts a day...weren't there like referal points back in the day too...???

If you stare long enough, it turns into the 999, then if you stare longer, 666. And if you stare for weeks upon end....... your eyes will burn out and you will go blind.

Well then, couldn't you just not have a requirement for it? You can just have like a 20 exp cap, and you dont have to do that much. You know, like combining old ideas, with new ideas.
My idea is an RPG battle system taking points off of other users if they lose
If you guy's are interested I will post more about it .

That's incredibly dumb.

Because Fulps didn't wanted to make this easy for us. =)

Hahaha i can't belive you even posted that !
I guess they could of made the number higher....not like it really matters but they could of if they wanted too, and like there gonna anyways
Well, I wouldn't mind it the amount being more, I was more curious as to the origin of it.
Changing the points available per day is pointless (no pun intended :P). If you change it, that means not only you, but everyone else will be getting more points. Even if you go up by 20 points, HT and the rest of us will too, thus giving you the same problem that you are trying to rectify, just with more points.
All in all it's like this:
Originally, as stated by others, it was set at 1xp per vote. You could vote for xp up to five times a day. They then decided to change the number. Why is beyond me, however, 10 is the best number for this. Why? It's simple.
10 is a nice round number that isn't so incredibly high that the old votes may not of counted as much.
The way the system is set now, it wouldn't matter if you deposit for 1 xp a day.
10 is a more free number than 1. You can have 394 exp. points as opposed to 39.4.
But bigger numbers LOOK COOLER! Jeeze Osama, why do you have to shit on our faces with your silly logic, douche...
